So Long!

Today was a sad day for the husband. He sold his first true love, his red corvette he has had since he was 15. It was definitely time for it to go! We had hoped to get a good trade in deal when he bought the 4Runner, but they didn’t want to give him much, so we stuck a sign it it, put it on craigslist, etc. and finally got a buyer! They came to pick it up today, so I took some “farewell” pictures of Bobby with his car for one last time.

Today has been hot, but this morning it was nice and breezy and the humidity was low. FALL IS COMING!

I haven’t been feeling well the past couple days and I am not sure what it is, so today which is a “cross training day” I am not really going to do much except go on a one mile power walk when it cools down this evening. Tomorrow is going to be a tempo run on the treadmill and I want to make sure I am feeling better for that one!

Hope everyone has had a great day! We had another long drawn out thing we did today which I will talk about soon…it’s big!

QOTD: Is fall making an appearance where you live? Do you put out fall decorations? If so, when?

Marathon Training…GO!

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a good weekend. In case you need to catch up, this is what you missed:

Pre Trip

Today was me and Bobby’s first official day of marathon training. It is official, we have begun! I have my schedule printed out and on my refrigerator, and I write my weekly schedule on a little dry erase board I have up there, too.
For those wondering, I am using the Runner’s World smart coach plan.  I believe you have to be a Runner’s World member to use it, but membership is free. You can find the tool HERE. It’s super easy to use, and you can use it for all distances of races, not just marathons. They have a printer friendly version which is nice, too.
Today called for 3 easy miles at a 12:00 min/mile pace. (Note, I can run faster than this but am just following what my training says!)
Bobby and I ended up running them at 11:35 min/mile. Oops. It was more humid than it has been lately, but there was a breeze which was nice.
In my comments yesterday, someone asked me about training while on vacation. I thought since it was such a good question I would share with the class. My training plan is 16 weeks long. My marathon isnt for 18 weeks (I think) So I built in some “cushion” time for myself for things like injury, illness, vacation, etc. in case I have to miss a long run or God forbid a whole week due to something. When I am in Disney in 2 weeks, I plan to run, hopefully 3 times like I am doing now, but, I will forgo the long run for just another shorter run. I will still do my easy run and tempo run and will throw in another one just to maintain. Then when I get home, I can do my long run as planned the next week and still have time in my training to get all my long runs in.
Disney has several great places to run! The deluxe hotels have gyms, and if you aren’t staying at one you can use the gym for a small fee. Also, there are so many trails and great places to run on property at th resorts! HERE is a great site with maps and trails of places to run in Disney.
I also wanted to mention, yesterday was the 5 year anniversary of hurricane Katrina. My entire family was impacted by this storm, and there are many places still recovering, so please keep them in your prayers! I leave you with a couple of pictures I took of some of the destruction close to home.
In these first two you can see the water lines. In the one directly below you can tell the national guardsmen that checked and spray painted this house were on a boat because of how high up the spray paint is.n61700476_30022900_1806

One of my dad’s employees parents died in this house during the storm. the double lines through the “0” mean two bodies.

These last two were taken from my parents yard. A tornado went down their street and 87 trees fell! My parents house was one of only two home on the whole street with no trees through the house and roof.

QOTD: What are your thoughts on Katrina?

Pre Trip

Happy Sunday all! It’s really overcast here but only 77 degrees, I can’t believe it! It’s supposed to be raining…but it’s not. Just home from church, and have a baby shower to go to later on today!

I thought that since I am so excited about my trip I would spend some time telling you all about it! I can’t wait, we need to get away so badly!

We are staying for 7 nights at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa in the main building, concierge level.
(yes I took these pictures!)

For those unfamiliar, concierge at the Grand involves food being out most of the day..breakfast, afternoon snacks, tea and scones, dinner appetizers, champagne, wine, cordials and desserts later, etc. The lounge is so nice, I love sitting there listening to the piano or orchestra play in the evenings, overlooking the lobby.

All of the fall decorations will be out

We will be attending the first Mickey’s not so scary Halloween party of the season! We went two years ago and had a blast. Nothing like trick-or-treating in the Magic Kingdom!

We will be on the Deluxe Dining plan, which means lots and lots of food!
Bobby savoring his lobster at Narcoossees

We will be going down a day early to drop the girls off with my parents who are so graciously dogsitting for us! Then we are driving halfway, to Talahassee, to spend the night in hotel. The Saint home opener is that night and there is NO WAY I was missing it! Friday morning we will drive the rest of the way and be in our happy place for 7 nights!

I will be twittering and updating my FB pages, so if you are not following me youcan do so on the right sidebar of this blog. I will try to blog if I can but I will have to do it on my phone and may not be very successful. (I am too cheap to pay 10 bucks a day just to blog, sory guys!)

Today is a rest day, tomorrow marks my first official day of marathon training! eekk! I will be updating my marathon training tab/page so you can keep track of my workous on there!

QOTD: what do you do with your pets when you go out of town?

Matchy Matchy

Hello everyone!

Today has been a good day so far. We woke up and went for a 6 mile cutback week run.Marathon training starts MONDAY! eeekk!
We went to Cracker Barrel for lunch then to the suit store. They were having a buy one sit get one free plus 2 free shirts and ties. The husband desperately needs a couple new, nice, suits that actually fit him and are not hand me downs. We got there and he almost died looking at the price, bt i tried to remember for that price he was getting TWO suits plys TWO shirts and TWO ties. He still wanted to die. Plus alterations. haha!

We ran an errand, then came home and I took a nap. I was out so fast! I just woke up and am quite groggy. Please forgive me if I am not making any sense! It just started to rain, so I think we are just going to hang out here the rest of the day and relax!

Something exciting coming, I am going to be hosting my very first blog giveaway soon! I can’t wait! I bought a sweatyband yesterday, and spoke with the lovely creator today, and she is going to send me something to giveaway to a lucky reader!!! Isn’t that fun? I am excited! So, keep checking back to see when that happens!

The band I got is super cute and super “me” of course it matches one of my running skirts, too. Duh!
Please excuse the “I just woke up and am not happy about running 6 miles” look!
Also, please excuse the shoes all over the floor and dog toys in the background!

I will be doing a full sweatyband review when I do my giveaway! Stay tuned! Don’t miss it!

Also, because she is so sweet when she sleeps (and a terror when awake!) I leave you with, Stinky!

QOTD: For exercise this weekend I am ____________

Ok, I’ll do it!

I have decided that unless something comes up betwen now and the end of September when I need to register…I am going to run the Jazz half. So is Bobby (but we won’t run together.) I have already reserved a hotel room in downtown NOLA, but I am waiting to register for the race until after vacation since that is non refundable. I am excited but nervous. I haven’t raced since May! I am SO competitive with myself, I really want a PR, but also hate putting pressure on myself. It’s such a complex thing with me! Hopefully I will have the time to put in some good training runs and it will be a good race. We will see! In case you missed my last post about the jazz half, you can check out the race website HERE.

Today was supposed to be cross training, but my arms are really sore from two days of arm workouts. I may just stretch, foam roll, and go for a walk. Long run is tomorrow morning!

Two weeks from today we will be in the happiest place on earth.

Disneyworld truly is my happy place… I just love being there and forgetting all my troubles and having fun! This is why I love my job so much, getting to help people plan their dream Disney vacation is so much fun! I can help you, too!

Don’t worry, while I am gone I won’t be blogging much, but I will be updating via twitter and my facebook fan pages, so if you have not joined, you can do so on the right sidebar to keep up with me on my trip (and at all other times, too!)

Have a magical day!

QOTD: What place makes you the happiest?

Bondi Band

Ok, so I finally bit the bullet and bought a bondi band. I have crazy hair, and I hate HATE getting sweat in my eyes! I wore my bondi band for the first time today on a nice 3 miles low humidity run!
What kind of bondi band do you think I got? I had to support my boys in black and gold of course!!!

So far, I really like it. It kept a lot of sweat and hair out of my face, score!

Oh, also, i got my free giveaway hirt I won in a blog giveaway. it’s super cute! Only prolem is it’s really tight! I was told that it fits like a t-shirt but sadly it does not. it fits like a fitted T, and I got a small, so it is a little snug and short on my long torso. Oh well. Its very hard to take a selfpic with a heavy camera. I need to learn how to use the self timer.

it says “26.2, running down a dream” cute!

aaannddd just because SHE is super cute, here is your cute puppy fix for the day. Yes, she has one of her ratty toys in her mouth.

have a good day!

QOTD: Do you run in a headband? How do you fix your hair to run?

**I also wanted to mention you can join my facebook fan page for Running with Sass OR Travel with the Magic on my sidebar as well as follow me on twitter! I am working on getting my e-mail subscription button back up!

Sunshine Day

Good morning!
I slept TEN HOURS last night. What is wrong with me? Anyway, since today is a rest day I decided to dra Bobby to the pool for an hour and fifteen minutes. I, of course, ended up treading water and swimming around, on my rest day. Also I will probably end up doing some weights/arms….on my rest day. Funny how that works!

Anyway, here is the sight from my chair

We don’t stay out long, just long enough to get a little sunshine (we wore sunscreen) and relax a bit, read magazines, and float around.

I have got a lot of reading to do, I am determined to learn how to use my camera before our trip in 15 days! I know there is no way I can learn everything but I want to have a grasp on a few concepts. I think I will make a cheat sheet!

I hope everyone has a happy hump day! halfway to the weekend, you can do it!

QOTD: Do you actually rest on rest days?

Should I?

Should I run the Jazz half? It is October 30th in NOLA. It is on a Saturday morning so we would spend the night in a hotel on the course Friday night. I have the Disney full in January an Mardi Gras half in February, and probbaly some small local 5k’s etc. inbetween. It would basically be a marathon training run. This is the second year they are doing it and it benefits the children’s hospital. What do you think?
www.jazzhalf.com

Any comments and opinions would be greatly appreciated!!

Hope everyone is having a nice day. The humidity is low here (79% is low!) so it’s been rather nice today. Went to the gym and cross trained for 45 minutes on the elliptical, then finished up cleaning the house. I love a clean house!

So do you like the new layout? I took the rose picture in my banner myself! 🙂

QOTD: Jazz half?

Homemade Sugar Cookies

These are the best cookies. But, the icing is what makes them spectacular, so don’t leave it out!

Sugar Cookies:
2 cups all purpose flour
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tablespoon evaporated milk
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt and set aside. Cream butter and sugar. Add egg milk, and vanilla. Add flour mixture. Roll out to about 1/8 to1/4 inch thick, and cut into shapes. Bake for about 10 minutes.

Icing:
2 cups confectioners sugar
1/4 stick butter
1/4 cup evaporated milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
A few drops of food coloring if you want a color besides white. Mix all together. Brush on cookies. It depends on how thick you want your icing, you can add more evaporated milk for thinner icing, or more powdered sugar for thicker icing. It takes a few hours for the icing to harden.
