My Body is Happy

Today has been a good day for my body. I started off with a three mile run (which was supposed to be 5 but we had a um….family issue to deal with so it was cut short.) Then, Bobby and I both got massages. A salon was having a new client special where a one hour massage was $35.00! Heck yes!  I felt awesome after! It just went by too fast! Can you believe that as my first real massage? I have had facials before at a spa but never a massage. Then, Bobby and I went to lunch. It was an absolutely gorgeous day today, so we sat outside.

b1d38e78

We had to run a couple errands, one dealing with our new house we are building and the bank which made us very happy. Then, I got home and our new computers had arrived! I got a new laptop…my other poor baby was getting a thick white line through the screen and so slow. It was given to us for free so no biggie. We got a good deal from Dell since we bought them together. Now I just have to get it all set up (I am using my old one right now.)

Then, I was back out on the road again for my chiropractor appointment. He took x-rays yesterday so today was to explain everything to me and do an adjustment. Well…come to find out it’s a good thing I went because I am in pretty bad shape! Not only is one hip rotated forward an inch and the other back an inch, but I have scoliosis (which i knew) causing a half inch leg length discrepancy and the top curve of my neck which is supposed to be a 43 degree curve is a negative two, curving back the other way! I have MAJOR sinus issues and can’t breathe when I run and he said this should REALLY improve my running (which I am SO excited about) not only for my sinuses but for my hips and legs which are so out of whack to be normal! I CAN’T WAIT TO RUN NORMAL! can I just put that out there? My husband and I go back Tuesday for further consultation and to set up a plan. I am so glad I went, he said this could be affecting my metabolism, my thyroid, reproductive organs, digestive system, hormones, all kinds of stuff! WEIRD!

Ok, last but not least, my sweet puppies before and after haircut pictures!

My sweet girls!!! Ok, I literally got nothing done at home since I was gone all day. I need to at least do some laundry or dishes. Have a good evening everyone!

A Day in the Country

Today we spent the day in the country! Bobby’s mom and her husband just built a new house, it’s super cute, out in the middle of the sticks! It took us a solid 2 hours to get there. I was quite starving by then, so we went to lunch at a little Mexican restaurant

DSC_0331

They live on a hill on a beautiful gold course, so they drove us around and showed us “downtown” which reminded me of the little small towns you see in movies! Then we went to see the view for a neighbors house. Beautiful!

We were standing right on a tee box!

Then we went back to their house where they have a huge deck overlooking the golf course.

They have these hummingbird feeders, and while most have already left to fly south for winter with this weeks cool front, there were still a few lingering. They said sometimes they will have 25-30 all at once, crazy! Bobby got some good pictures.

Isn’t that cool?!

We had to leave early because I had a chiropractor evaluation at 4:30. Apparently my sinuses are so blocked he is surprised I can breathe. awesome. Also not only do I have scoliosis (which I knew) but one of my hips is rotated causing my pain. He took x-rays and I go back tomorrow. Hopefully this will improve my running!

Speaking of running, tomorrow is a run, and then a MASSAGE! I am excited! I hope everyone had a good day while I was in the car over 4 hours!

QOTD: Do you have any wildlife at your house? We had deer, armadillos, raccoon, possum, you name it!

Relaxation is coming!

Another beautiful day here in central Mississippi! I think I will go for a walk in a little while as my cross training. My legs were really aching last night from my long run Saturday and 3 miles yesterday. I usually don’t get sore until two days after, so I foolishly thought I was ok on Sunday since I wasn’t hurting. Boo!

Today has been one of those “take care of random things around the house” days. Paying bills, doing dishes, making phone calls, etc. I NEED to pack more but it’s so overwhelming I don’t know where to start!

Tomorrow, We are going to visit Bobby’s mom and her husband about an hour and a half from here. They just built a house on the golf course so I am hoping to get some good blog pictures! Also on the agenda for tomorrow, haircuts and checkups for the furry ones. We are just going to drop them off for the day before we go. Works out perfectly! They are getting REALLY shaggy!

Whenever Bobby or I cook, Bella stays RIGHT under us, waiting for something to fall…

Bobby making Tuna salad (gross!) Yup, he shirtless. If he is home, you can bet he is not wearing a shirt. He hates clothes. Maybe we should move to a nudist colony? HHhhmm…don’t think I would go for that one!

…and yes, I have already busted out my Halloween PJ pants! I mean, I can only wear them for a short time, so I am starting now!

DSC_0330

Guess what Bobby and I are doing Thursday? We are getting massages! I am SO excited. Can you believe I have never had a professional massage?! I mean, Bobby gives them to me and does a great job, but still. There is a new place in town and they are offering half price massages on Tuesdays and Thursdays, $35 for an hour for a new client. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!? I am so excited. My back has been bothering me since I have been long running again, and I am hoping this will help my poor muscles! Would love to make this a regular thing at that price!!!

Ok ok, I am going to go pack, and then I have my girls group meeting tonight, can’t wait to see them!!! Have a great afternoon everyone!

QOTD: Do you get massages ever? often? never?

Finally Fall!

Afternoon! I can officially say it is a beautiful FALL day here! I woke up this morning and took the dogs out, and at 8:00 it was still only 57 degrees! I was so excited to run, but I had to wait for Bobby to get home from the gym. We headed out around 9:15 and I was CHILLED when we started, love it! Today was supposed to be an “easy run,” and all summer on my easy runs I have had to carry water, stop at least once, and they were SLOW even for easy runs. Not today! Didn’t carry water, didn’t stop at all, finished 4-6 minutes faster than usual. Score!  So maybe I am not getting slower as I had began to fear, I just had been running in miserable conditions since May! Anyway, the run flew by, and Bobby had an appointment to go to then I was meeting him to do more cleanup….ug. While he was gone I decided to take some pictures of some of my fall decorations, because, it’s FINALLY here!

We got some more cleaning done, the laundry room is now clean out along with the kitchen and living room…only about 7 more rooms to go! gah!

Hope everyone makes it through their Monday unscathed, it should be close to quitting time for some!

QOTD: What is your favorite thing about fall?

Good morning! It’s a rainy Sunday here, but I am welcoming it because all this rain is a COLD FRONT coming through, tomorrow’s high is 79!!! eeekkk!!! I am about to watch my boys in black and gold beat up on the dirty birds, but I wanted to post this recipe first. These muffins are so good! They were easy to make and so light!

I apologize for the quality of the photos, I have been way to lazy to pull out my SLR, but I promise I will try harder next week! I hope everyone has a great Sunday, go watch football, relax, take a nap, go for a walk, enjoy!!! Busy week for me, more on that later!

QOTD: What is you favorite kind of muffin?

    Run for (your) life!

Good afternoon! I am in a really good mood because I had an awesome ten mile run this morning with Bobby. It has been so hot here, and we always start long runs between 9:30 and 10:30, and it’s just miserable. We start so late because hubby works till 10:30 pm on Friday’s, but I was selfish today and told him we were going early! I got up at 6:15 and we ran at 7:30. The sun was already up, and it was already 78 degrees, but still better than 95! Temps rose to about 85 by the time we were done, but it was still SO much cooler and I went so much faster, and this run actually felt good. No cramps, no hip pain, it was fabulous!

    What is this I see?

    ae01ae5a

hhmmm let’s get closer to check it out!

    1ee99bb2

There were some people in a hot air balloon and it landed right in front of us as we were going by. We saw another one in the air, too over the lake. They were so pretty! What a beautiful day for a ride! (Even though you would have to drag me kicking and screaming onto one of those babies because I am petrified of heights!)

We ran the first six miles so quickly, it just flew by! We stopped by the car to grab a GU (vanilla, yum) and some Gatorade and refuel and we were back at it again. When I got to mile 7, I did some calculations and realized if we pushed it, we could finish under 2 hours. The last mile was SO hard (it was getting hot by then and I pushed harder than I have in a while, but we did it, finishing in 1 hour 58 minutes, yay! We came home and I iced my ankles and hips as a preventative measure, but I am feeling good! I definitely could have kept going (not at that pace, but still!)

Ok so what is my title all about. Well….even though it costs more than I like….we signed up for another half marathon…two weeks from today! Are we crazy or what! I realized there was one literally 5 minutes from my house, and since we are moving we figure it’s our last hurrah, final race up here, so why not. We have a long training run that day anyway, so may as well make it interesting!

    2a1e5bb5

*note, I know in the picture it says “run for life marathon” but the picture is cut out, it also says “…and half marathon” no no, I am not doing a full in two weeks! Anyway, the race is called Run for Life, celebrating fitness. They are giving away a car! Right now we have a 2 in almost 700 chance to win it. woot!

Here is the link to the race site if you want to check it out:

Run for Life Marathon and Half Marathon

Hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday. High today is 94, but all next week highs are in the 80’s with some low’s in the 50’s AAAHH! I don’t even know if I remember what that feels like!!! Stoked to run in that!!!

QOTD: Have you ever signed up for a race, last minute/on a whim?

    Cheesy Crock Pot Chicken

Evening all! Sorry I have been MIA all day, been busy busy! Bobby and I went grocery shopping, I made a new recipe for dinner, had to run some errands, etc. Hope everyone is already enjoying their weekend.

When it comes to cooking, a lot of times I am all about quick and simple. This recipe I tried tonight sure was both of those, and it was also good!

    b842654f

First I mixed a can of cheddar cheese soup with a can of low sodium cream of chicken soup as seen above. The I cut up 3 boneless skinless chicken breasts in halves, put some all seasons on them (or salt and pepper, whatever flavoring you want) and threw them in the crock pot with my soup mixture.

    2146fbd0

I let it cook on high for a couple hours then on low for about another hour (we were in a time crunch, or I would have cooked it on low the whole time.) While that was cooking, I cooked some noodles to go with my chicken.

    fb308463

You can see my Saints PJ pants in this picture haha.

Here is the finished product. It was pretty good to be so easy! Also, we have leftovers, always a plus!

    c1e3ca89

Bella sat under the table while we ate. Hoping for a scrap maybe?

    70943193

After dinner I had to run another errand, and I picked up a treat on the way home!

    b78cf5ca

I haven’t had Bop’s in SO LONG. I got Oreos mixed in. YUM! It was so rich I couldn’t finish it all on the drive home.

Tomorrow I have ten miles in the morning, and I have another fun announcement for tomorrow’s post so stay tuned!

QOTD: What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

    Jazzy!

Ok, it’s official, we signed up for the Jazz half! We already had our room booked, how backwards are we? I knew we had to sign up by the end of the month before the price went up. I didn’t want to be one of those people who says they are going to sign up, makes all these plans, then actually forgets to do it!

Since I will be living with my parents it will be so easy to just make the drive over the day before the race, they are only about 40 minutes away. I am crossing my fingers for cool temps, I hate running long distances in the heat!

I am excited about this race because it is an out and back (no taking school busses from the end back to the superdome to walk to our hotel!) and, its a super flat and fast course, and it starts early enough that it should be nice weather. My question is, it’s on October 30, day before Halloween obviously, any easy costume ideas for me? I will of course be wearing a running skirt!

You can sign up for this race still if you want to run! just go to the Jazz Half website and sign up on active.com or by mailing in your form. This race benefits the children’s hospital, so it’s for a good cause! Sign up is $60 dollars until the end of September and you get a gender specific (score!) tech shirt and a medal! Come join the fun, I would love to see you there!

In running news, I ran for a little over an hour on the treadmill today, and while I was stretching after I noticed the blood from my sock the other day had gone through to my relatively new shoes. Gah! Any ideas on how to get it out? Tide to go stick? I must admit, it makes me feel a little hardcore to have a bloody shoe! 😛 I know it’s hard to see but on the top and bottom of the solid grey in the middle of the pic there are blood stains.

    cf555e27

I switched around last week and this week in my training because last week was a hard week and this week is a cutbak week, but since I did PLENTY of cutting back on vacation, I swapped the two so this week would be harder. with my mileage today and if I do my whole 10 mile long run Saturday, I will have hit 25 miles for the week. I know that’s small potatoes for most, but for this used to be sprinter, that’s an accomplishment!

    First Marathon Training “Injury”

Ok, so it’s more of a joke…but still, an injury just the same! I went on an impromptu 5 mile run yesterday. I was going to do 3 or 4, but just kept going. Bobby was at work so I had nothing else to do, so may as well, right? From about a mile in I felt a pain on my right toe. I have had this before so I knew what it was. my 2nd and 3rd toe are longer than the other toes, so when the nail on my 4th toe is too long it rubs the side/underneath of the 3rd toe. Got all that? good. Well, thinking it would just blister or make a small cut I just ran through the pain. When I got home and took my shoe off I found this. EW!

    warning, blood ahead!

GROSS! I was totally not expecting that! I promptly cut my nails, took a shower and bandaged that baby up. What sucks is every step I take now hurts. Hope I can run tomorrow! I started thinking it would be no fun if something like this happened during the race. How will I prepare for it? I definitely need to start making a list of things to do before I run (like cut my nails!) and things to bring “just in case” something goes wrong. I can’t imagine running in that pain like that for 26 miles. my foot would be covered in blood haha!

Rest day today, like I could do anything if I wanted to, so it actually works out well. A big thanks to everyone who commented on my post yesterday. I was not expecting the great reaction I got, but I got a lot of encouragement and feel like I am doing the right thing for me, so thank you! I have not had time to respond to all the comments so I am going to go do that right now! Have a great afternoon everyone!

QOTD: Any foot related running injuries out there?

    The Birth Control Pill Debate

Good afternoon! It’s another hot one here. Spent the morning doing more cleaning out and lifting, and I may run later this evening before Glee!

Ok, I am sure you are curious about the title of this post, so here you go! I have been on birth control pills since I started college for reasons not even related to birth control. I had horrible cramps and acne, and it seemed to help for awhile. Over the years I have been on 5, yes 5 different birth control pills. I switched so often because they would give me emotional problems like anxiety, moodiness, and I would be just plain mean sometimes. Anyway, my most recent pill I have been on maybe 3 years, is Yaz. I am sure you have seen the TV commercials saying it is dangerous, etc. etc.

Well, a few weeks ago I was in a particularly bad mood so for some reason I decided to do some research on my pill. It was like a light went off, a revelation, I was having SO MANY side effects I would never have thought would be attributed to a birth control pill! Here are a list of my side effects. *Please note I am not a doctor, and some of these side effects may not really be from the pill but these are things that have come on SINCE I have been taking yaz:

    -racing heart

    -shortness of breath

    -anxiety

    -weight gain

    -eye astigmatism

    -post nasal drip (constantly)

-ear fullness (feeling like they need to pop)

    -short temper/anger

    -other sinus issues

    -swollen ankles

    -losing of my hair

    -fatigue

and this is just off the top of my head folks! I cannot believe I have been poisoning my body all these years! I do realize some people need to be on the pill for medical reasons but for someone like me who does not, I felt no need to keep living like this! I have been off the pill for 3 weeks and let me just say I feel SO MUCH BETTER! Most of my emotional symptoms have gone away and I am generally happier. The ear fullness and some of the post nasal stuff has gone away, as well as the racing heart. I am sill losing my hair and have shortness of breath as well as fatigue, but from everything I read it may take awhile for my body to get back to normal. I feel like a new woman!

What really helped me was this website I found: Yaz and Yasmin Survivors. If you think you may be having debilitating symptoms like I was please go check it out! I feel like doing this is just one more way I can be good to my body, be more healthy and much more happy! Looking back I can’t believe I was living like that! I guess I just got so used to it that I thought that was how I was supposed to feel. Now I feel FFFRRREEEE!

**These are my opinions and opinions ONLY on BC pills!**

Once again I will leave you with a couple pictures from our trip:
