Beach Trip 2014 Part 1

Our annual beach trip to Destin was a success! We only went three nights this year though so it seemed REALLY fast. I think I could stay there for weeks and never get tired of it. Bobby had class every day from 8-12 to keep his law license active for another year, but we still had a blast!

We left in the morning so we could get into Destin by lunchtime. Of course we had to stop at the rest stop at the Florida state line and get some orange juice.

I happened to see Disney signs everywhere and of course had to take a picture with one.

unnamed (18)

We made it to Destin in time for lunch, and stopped at the Destin Commons outdoor mall to eat at Panera Bread and do some shopping. For a couple weeks now Godiva has been posting these delicious chocolaty frozen drinks on Instagram and I have been craving one but have no idea where a Godiva store is located. So….when I saw one…well, you know what happens next.

unnamed (19)

It was absolutely delicious. Bobby and I split the milk chocolate flavor. We walked around for a bit then headed to Henderson Park Inn to check in for three nights. It’s an adults only bed and breakfast with 36 rooms and it’s the most relaxing place on the beach I have ever stayed.

unnamed (20)

Our room wasn’t ready yet, so we sat outside on the deck in some rocking chairs looking at the ocean. Beautiful and relaxing!

Finally our room was ready (we snagged the only 4 person room in the place!) and unloaded before heading down to walk on the beach.

Our room was on the first floor right on the main deck. Honestly, at first I was a little nervous about it’s location with foot traffic and all, but we ended up loving it. The bathroom was way too small for four people (our bathroom last year for a two person room was huge) but we made it work.

DSC_0090

When you stepped out the double doors this is what you saw (excuse the chairs all tossed about, they were redoing the tiki hut which took FOREVER. I was bummed we only got to enjoy it one night, but oh well.)

DSC_0092

We changed into our swimsuits, and headed out for a walk on the beach and to play in the water for a bit before dinner.

I love that the inn borders the state park. Nice and quiet on this part of the beach! You can see the inn in the background on the left.

unnamed (25)

The boys played in the water and mom and I hung out under an umbrella. A great way to spend an hour or so before dinner time!

unnamed (26)

Every night the inn has happy hour from 4-5, free wine, beer, and margaritas/pina colodas/strawberry daiquiris. Because the tiki hut was being refurbished they had happy hour inside, and therefore said they couldn’t make me a non-alcoholic drink, so I was pretty bummed to just sit there while everyone else had drinks. I am NOT really a drinker, but fruity drinks at the beach are a must, right?

I have no pictures, but we ate dinner at McGuire’s then headed back and were asleep by 9:00! Travel days always get to me. But we needed our sleep for a day on the beach the next day!

QOTD: When you go to the beach do you stay in a hotel, condo, bed and breakfast, rent a house, etc?

Pregnancy Update: Week 26

So sorry for the late post everyone! We had a great time at the beach, and then headed back to our old house where we have no internet, so I am a little behind with everything. Week 26 has been interesting, I feel like I have hit the uncomfortable 3rd tri a little early. Take a look below.

26weeks bump

Oh boy. I am having a tough time swallowing the fact that I just can’t do things like I used to. I can’t ride in the car as long without my back screaming and feet swelling, I can’t clean or pick up the house without getting out of breath, and I get mentally exhausted way more often than I should. Things are getting tougher physically, and the thought that it’s just going to get harder until Baby M arrives is something I am in total denial about.

Symptoms: Forgetful (I forgot my phone in the bathroom in Destin). Back pain if I sit in any position for too long or do any bending over like trimming bushes, etc. Foot swelling when I ride in the car 2+ hours, tired, feeling slow and run down most of the time. This scares me for what the third trimester will feel like! A new big symptom has emerged in full force this week: Heartburn. It was really bad at the beach, and tums have been my BFF.

Baby’s Size: Head of Lettuce

Maternity Clothes: I got two tops and skirts from the Destination Maternity Outlet in Florida, I was seriously lacking on things to wear to church.

Stretch Marks: Nothing new

Sleep: Some nights I only get up once to pee, some nights 3-4 times. I was exhausted every night at the beach so I had no trouble falling asleep. Only a couple of times did I struggle to get back to sleep.

Miss Anything: Feeling like an athlete, feeling in shape, etc. Is this what it feels like to get old? I’m not a fan.

Cravings: Cold, sweet things like fruit, slushies etc. It’s VERY warm down here in the south now so I am hot most of the time.

Aversions: Still not a big fan of chicken or beef. Or veggies.

Looking Forward to: Next Friday I go to the dr. and am having another ultrasound!

What I’m Loving: Baby kicks, getting comments and congratulations from people (the nice comments haha).

Workouts: Walked on the beach every day I was there, also walked a lot around the outlet mall. Other than that I took it easy.

unnamed (16)

QOTD: Mamas/mamas to be, did you get discouraged when you started to slow down during pregnancy and couldn’t do the things you used to?

What is your favorite beach activity?

Where’s My Phone?

Good morning! I am back from the beach…sort of. We are at our house on the gulf coast that we are trying to sell, but headed back up to our new/current living location today. Not having wifi makes blogging life difficult, so I apologize.

Yesterday we drove home from Destin, but it wasn’t without it’s stressful moments. Lllliikkkkeee leaving your cell phone in the bathroom when you stop for lunch and not realizing it until you are over 30 minutes down the road. Oy. Or having your body decide pregnancy heartburn is going to make a deadly strike and not let up. Fun times I tell you! More on the trip soon, and pregnancy update tomorrow. Sorry it’s so late!

Note to everyone: If you have an iPhone and have NOT installed the “find my iPhone” app, DO IT! it is how we were able to see where I had left it, that it was still there, etc. So glad I did it and put it on Bobby’s phone, too!

QOTD: have you ever left your phone somewhere?

Beach Bum

Hey guys! I may be a bit MIA around the next few days, because I am currently at the BEACH! We are only here three nights and will be back Wednesday, but still a getaway non the less. Every summer we go to Destin because Bobby has to take continuing legal education classes to keep his law license. Every year I have to suffer through a few days in the sun. Smile

DSC_0862

We are staying where we stayed last year, which is an AMAZING adults only bed and breakfast right on the beach. This place will seriously spoil you. It’s going to be tough going anywhere else once we have kids coming along! I wrote a posts about Henderson Park Inn last year if you want to check it out.

Henderson Park Inn

This year my parents are tagging along, they haven’t been with us since 2011, so we are having fun hanging out with them a bit before our vacations involve a baby. So crazy to think of how soon that will be! Anyway, I am off to enjoy some time unplugged (no wifi at the bed and breakfast) but I will be posting pics to Instagram so you can follow me there. See ya in a couple of days!

QOTD: Do you go someone every year for vacation that is “tradition” or do you try out new places each time?

5 Reasons to Run a runDisney Race

It’s no secret that I love runDisney races. My very first one was in January of 2010, and I have been hooked ever since. The great thing about these races is that now there are so many, so there is something for everyone, at many different times of the year. If you are on the fence about signing up for a race, here are just a few of the many reasons why a runDisney race may make sense for you and your family.

5 reasons to runDisney

5 Reasons to run a runDisney race:

1.) Vacation for family: I like to call this a “racecation”. You don’t just have to come in the night before, run, and then go home like any other race. No no, you can make a whole week of fun out of a runDisney event! Many of the events are across multiple days, and then people sometimes choose to add a few days for relaxation after the race as well. With so many resorts, parks, and other activities to choose from, there is no shortage of fun. Just don’t forget to wear your medal around the parks, you earned it!

2.) Everyone can participate: What some people don’t realize is that a runDisney event consists of more than just a half marathon. Most of the event weekends also include kids races (all the way down to the diaper dash!), a family fun run 5k, and some even have a 10k and full marathon. So everyone from the smallest mouseketeer to grandma can join in the fun.

3.) Characters and course entertainment: Where else can you stop along the course to snap a picture with a few princesses or the big cheese himself? Not to mention the idea of running THROUGH Cinderella castle or around the World Showcase in EPCOT? There are plenty of things to see to keep your mind busy and a smile on your face as you race to the finish line. Not to mention, there are tons of awesome spectators along the routes!

4.) Great expo/speakers: One of my favorite parts of a runDisney race weekend would have to be the expo. So, so, so many vendors with great products for you to test out and purchase. There is also a plethora of official race merchandise, a speaker series where you can hear from some of your favorite knowledgeable runners, and not to mention those coveted New Balance running shoes.

5.) Amazing bling: I have a lot of race medals, but my favorites generally are those I earned from completing runDisney events. The designers do such a great job of incorporating magical components, shimmering touches, and even moveable parts. I always feel so accomplished after running a race, so having a beautiful medal to commemorate my experience makes it even more worthwhile. These guys are always outdoing themselves!

I could go on for days about why I love runDisney races and think you would too, but these are the top five that came to my mind. If you have any questions about runDisney, or want to know more about my personal experiences, I would love to hear from you or even help you plan your next trip! QOTD: What is the main reason why you run runDisney races? Is there something that just keeps you going back for more?

Pregnancy Update: Week 25

25 Weeks! I can’t believe in just around 100 days (wow) we will have a baby. I’m still in denial. Probably because I have been ignoring a lot of the things I am supposed to be doing. I have my glucose test Friday, and I am going to see about a hospital tour very soon as well.

25weeks bump

Symptoms: I have been having some serious tailbone pain. Anyone else ever suffer from this? My tailbone and back have been getting pretty achy, so I am trying to pay better attention to my posture and how long I allow myself to sit without stretching, which is hard when you work from a computer! I am definitely slowing down. I took a two hour nap yesterday at 3:00 and was afraid I wouldn’t be able to fall asleep last night. I fell asleep just fine, but am still having issues STAYING asleep. I had a relapse of not being able to eat much protein this week, I nearly gagged at a restaurant which is a feeling I haven’t had in many many weeks. I feel pretty good otherwise, and am trying to enjoy the last couple of weeks of being in my second trimester before I get to the “get this baby out of me” stage.

Baby’s Size: Cauliflower

Maternity Clothes: I got a maternity swimsuit from Target last week, which was slightly depressing. Swimsuit shopping is hard enough without extra weight! It’s cute though and I am looking forward to wearing it next week.

Stretch Marks: Same

Sleep: 1-3 bathroom trips a night, it varies. 8-9 hours a night, naps on workout days.

Miss Anything: Running. Like whoa. I feel so lazy.

Cravings: All the carbs and all the chocolate. We had fried rice the other day and it was amazing.

unnamed (12)

Aversions: Proteins like chicken and beef. Bleh.

Looking Forward to: The beach! I know we are just there 3 night but it’s better than nothing!

What I’m Loving: Baby kicks! My belly! Not feeling guilty about eating ice cream multiple times a week.

Workouts: I have been trying to get outside every other day to power walk, and then I stretch and do yoga poses on the “off” days. It’s way less than I was hoping to be doing at this point but unfortunately you can’t predict how your body will react to pregnancy.

QOTD: Do you go to the beach in the summer?

Weird Proposals, Baby Names, and Peanut Butter

Random blog post title no? Those are the most fun! So a few little tidbits I wanted to share that are going on around here.

First off, we got the most RANDOM phone call a week or so ago, that we thought was a scam at first. As most of you know, our home in Biloxi is for sale. Well, this woman from Los Angeles we on the phone, a producer for the TV network CMT. Apparently, there is going to be a reality show being filmed in the area, and they were looking for a house to film at for seven weeks. At first I was really against it….until I found out they wanted to pay us $30,000!!! HOLY MOLY! Unfortunately, it will not come to pass, once they found out we have an HOA they said they can’t work with us. Would have been pretty awesome and kind of cool! I bet our house would sell faster for one thing.

DSC_2313

reality house?

People keep asking us if we have decided on a baby name. The answer is yes. People keep asking us if we are going to tell them said baby name. The answer is no. Bobby made the mistake of sharing a few names on our short list with some people and we immediately had people coming up to us saying “oh, I don’t like this one” or “I would take that off the list first” etc. etc. This was slightly irritating for many reasons, and it took every fiber of my being not to say back to them “well, I am SO glad it’s not your baby to decide about!” I’m not sure why but it just really, really rubbed me the wrong way. If it’s on our short list we obviously really like the name so to slam it and tell us not to use it (you know, since It’s your decision anyway someone who is NOT the baby’s mom or dad) got pretty frustrating. We figured out if you wait until baby is born, it’s already on the birth certificate, etc. People aren’t (or shouldn’t, that would be awful!) Come up to you and say they don’t like the name of your hours old child. Opinions seem to be more kept to themselves after the fact and I like that much better. So I am really sorry but barring a slip of the tongue, little bit will remain “baby M” until she makes her entrance in September.

DSC_0029

Girl baby M’s name will remain a mystery. At least I let you in on the gender!

I have been having weird peanut butter cravings lately. I have always liked the stuff, don’t get me wrong, but I have been eating peanut butter sandwiches, reses pieces, and peanut butter filled pretzels like they are going out of style. On the other hand, I am really struggling with meat. I didn’t think I would have aversions at this point in pregnancy, but after a couple bites of chicken or beef I just cannot stomach anymore. Did this happen to anyone else?

QOTD: Thoughts on people giving name opinions unsolicited? Did you share you child’s name? Would you ever let someone use your house for a reality TV show?

A New Perspective

Call me way behind in the times, but I JUST watched the movie Soul Surfer about Bethany Hamilton on Saturday night. It’s one of those movies I always wanted to see, but wasn’t going to go out of my way to rent, etc. My mom happened to DVR it the other day, so we all watched it together. Yes there were a few cheesy parts, and parts of Carrie Underwood’s performance reminded me of the Sound of Music live TV special, but I really, really loved the message.

john 137

Bobby and I are currently going through some unpleasant things in life, and we have said things that, just like the actress who played Bethany said….”I just don’t understand why this is happening to me.” In the movie, Carrie Underwood’s character challenges the kids to see things from a new perspective, that sometimes we are too close in on a situation, and need to back up a bit to try to see more of the big picture.

While I think this is a great thing to do, it is definitely easier said than done. For a control freak like me who likes to know everything NOW, waiting around to see the big picture, or waiting around to see that eventually something good will come of a situation, is not ideal in my mind….especially when I feel like I have already been waiting a long time.

It is my hope that maybe someone else can one day benefit by what we have been through/are going through and hearing our story (which is still in the making), so I do try really hard to set a good example and have a good attitude about it all, even when things don’t turn out as planned.

unnamed (2)

So, while I know this is a big week for us and could end very happily or with us being very discouraged, I pray that no matter what we will be able to keep it all in perspective and see the bigger picture. I hope you are encouraged today to not get frustrated by things in life, but instead to step back and think.

QOTD: Have you ever wanted answers to come right away, and to be able to see why certain things were happening to you? Did you end up seeing the bigger picture eventually?
