Baby Pool Guessing

Today I am officially 38 weeks pregnant! I have my weekly doctor’s appointment this morning, and I am quite anxious to hear what she has to say. Last week we discussed possible induction, but it will depend on how I am progressing. I would prefer to go into labor on my own, but also don’t want to go past my due date due to baby M’s already large size and my desire for a vaginal delivery.

089

Anyway, I will have my weekly update up tomorrow, but I thought it would be fun to do a baby pool. My fellow coworkers have started guessing so I thought an “official” pool would make things easier, and all of my blog readers can join in! There MAY even be a prize for the person who wins, so there is some incentive to get it right!

So how does it work? It’s easy, just go to baby M’s Baby Pool page and enter in your guesses for day, time, weight, etc. Should be fun!

QOTD: Have you ever participated in or won a baby pool? Are you good at guessing things like this?

Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans Here I Come!

I mentioned awhile back that I would be running the Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans half marathon, but I finally got my rear in gear and officially registered!

Rock 'n' Roll New Orleans

Bobby is registered too, so we will both be running the half in January. I am admittedly a little nervous as it will be my first half after having baby M, and since I haven’t really run since sometime in the second trimester, I will literally be starting from scratch. But that’s ok! I’m going to CELEBRATE being able to run again and have already started brainstorming costume ideas. Oh yes my friends. I WILL be running in a costume. It’s all about fun at Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans!

Voting has ended on the finisher’s medals for this race, but the design will be announced on the 18th! I will be posting pictures on Instagram as soon as I get my hands on a photo so be sure you are following me.

Another thing of note: There will be a price increase on September 19th, so hurry and register NOW! Be sure to use code LOOKINGGLASS at checkout for $10 off registration.

Rock 'n' Roll race

Be sure to follow along with Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans race info and news by using #RnRNOLA, and following @RunRocknRoll on Instagram and Twitter.

QOTD: Are you running any Rock ‘n’ Roll races next year? Which ones? Have you run any in the past?

I am so excited about this morning, I am going to get a pedicure! My sweet friend Jen gave me a gift certificate for my birthday to a spa since we went and got pedicures in Disney World on my birthday last year. I haven’t had a pedicure since then, so I can’t wait to have pretty toes before going into labor. 🙂 I also plan to get my first Pumpkin Spiced Latte of the year. Iced, of course. It’s WAY too hot for hot coffee here!

Pregnancy Update: Week 37

Here we are at 37 weeks! I had a really good appointment yesterday with my doctor and got to see baby M via ultrasound again! I can’t believe we will be seeing her “for real” soon!

37weeks bump3

Symptoms: Feeling huge. I am getting to the “get this baby out of me” stage and am very uncomfortable no matter how I sit, stand, or lay. Sleep is tough, standing up is tough, can you tell I am just ready to go here people? I waddle everywhere, and am starting to feel like baby M may fall out. I found out at my appointment yesterday her head is VERY very low, so that all makes sense. I am also measuring a little over a week ahead, they estimate baby M weights 7 pounds 5 ounces, which is more than I weighed when I was BORN! Everything on the ultrasound looked good though, and I am dilated a “loose 2 cm” and 70% effaced and am measuring a little over a week ahead. The doctor said although baby’s head is low, it needs to turn a bit, and she thinks when that happens I will dilate very quickly since I am pretty thinned out. Scary stuff!

Baby’s Size: Wintermelon <—–what is that?

Maternity Clothes: I am done, you won’t see me buying anymore, I am making do with what I have, I am way too close to the end!

Stretch Marks: I think I am still ok

Sleep: Oy. I am still getting up every 2-3 hours to pee, but funny story, last night I made it over FIVE HOURS without getting up, and when I did get up at 3:30, I was so excited about this that I woke myself up too much, and proceeded to lie awake for over two hours. What luck.

37weeks bump2

Miss Anything: Really everything at this point. Walking, running, sleeping, eating, just being normal I guess. I am so blessed that things are going well with no real complications as of right now, but I would be lying if I said I feel great and love this stage.

Cravings: Popsicles and sherbet this week. I may have just polished off a carton before I started this post.

Aversions: I went to my favorite chicken place, Raisin Canes, after my appointment yesterday and could barely eat my chicken. So sad.

Looking Forward To: Meeting baby M and sharing her pictures and name with you all! I am so glad you are following along with us on this journey, thanks for hanging in there!

What I’m Loving: Thinking about how insane it is that Bobby and I are about to be parents. I feel like a kid doing something I am not supposed to be doing. Aren’t we too young for this kind of responsibility? It’s crazy!

Workouts: None from last week since I was still on modified bed rest, but now that I’m at 37 she said I can go back to doing whatever and if baby M comes, so be it. AAAAHHH!

I forgot to mention last week in my update, my super sweet Sunday School class at church threw us a diaper shower! We had breakfast, lots of diapers, and then they circled up around us, put their hands on our shoulders, and prayed for us. It was a really special time and we are so grateful for them!

Also, in case you missed it, I posted baby M’s nursery tour on the blog yesterday, check it out!

nursery tour

QOTD: Do you ever feel like you are too young to be doing “grown up stuff”? I felt the same way when I went to college and when I got married, and bought a house!

Baby M’s Nursery Tour

Finally! Time for the nursery tour! I am just about done with baby M’s nursery, so I thought in honor of being 37 weeks today (eekkk!) I would finally share it. I think it came out well for the amount of money we spent on it, read on and I will explain the meaning and “how to” behind some of the pieces and how we were able to create this space on a budget. At the bottom of the post, I will list where I purchased different items in case anyone is interested!

nursery tour

Ok let’s start with the basics. I love, love, love, pink, but didn’t want a bubble gum explosion of pink in the nursery. When I found a lot of cute photos of aqua and pink together I knew it was what I wanted. Not to mention, if we have a boy next, the walls are already blue!

I picked up a gallon of paint at Sherwin Williams and my sweet dad painted the room for me.

mariner blue

painting

He also painted the dresser for me to be a changing table. I knew I didn’t want to buy an actual changing table because…well, what do you do with it when your child is potty trained? At least a dresser could continue to be used. I decided one that was in my guest bedroom (that was actually part of my childhood bedroom set) would be perfect.

dresser

You can’t really tell from the photo, but this poor dresser was beat up! Nicks, scratches, stains, etc. were all over it, so keeping it white was out of the question without repainting it anyway. I saw some ideas on Pinterest and thought a nice pop of pink would look great against the blue walls anyway. I read through SO MANY tutorials on painting furniture that it gave me a headache. Some claimed you HAD to sand, some claimed you HAD to put a coat of sealant, and so on. I don’t really know the differences in stains and paints and latex and satin and all of that, so I went to Lowes and the guy was super helpful. We ended up using a coat of primer (thanks mom!) and then a coat of the pink paint and it came out great!

pink paint

Dad painted the pink for me, too.

painting2

One coat gave it kind of an antique like finish, I am sure if you wanted a more solid one another coat would do it. I also knew I wanted cute hardware for the dresser because the old stuff was just well…ugly and brass. I bought two fake crystal knobs from Lowes, and tried my hardest to find handles that lined up with the existing holes, but they don’t make this odd size from probably 22 years ago.

dresser pink

I ended up buying a can of spray paint, and painted the existing handles to look silver/nickel and I think it tuned out ok!

dresser complete

Next, we put up the curtain. I splurged on this one because I wanted a well made blackout curtain and had been looking all over for just the right pattern. I ended up getting the bedding to match as well which had been a huge headache for me at first.

curtain

The curtain and the cute pink toppers both came from Pottery Barn. I had a 15% off coupon plus free shipping so it wasn’t too bad.

nursery tour

The glider and ottoman you may have already seen from my sad attempt at a DIY project. The round table was a hand me down from my parents. I would like to paint it white, but honestly right now I just don’t have the energy to deal with it. Any volunteers?

The pink lamp shade came from Wal-Mart. The lamp itself is another hand me down from my parents, but the shade was pretty ugly so I found this cheap but cute one the other day. The adorable stuffed animal bin that looks like a baby carriage was a shower gift.

nursery tour

Next was the crib. It was a shower gift along with the mattress, and had been sitting in our garage since we moved in, and I was ready for it to be up so I could place everything in the room where I wanted it. After a particularly hard/bad day, Bobby surprised me and started putting it together, hooray!

crib

As I mentioned before, I ended up getting my bedding from Pottery Barn as well. There were SO MANY adorable sets on Etsy, but in reality they were all way to expensive. (It’s a sad day when Pottery Barn is cheaper!) Since I knew it would match the curtains and the fabric would hold up well, I went ahead and bought it. The Cinderella castle picture about the crib is the Thomas Kincade print that used to hang in my foyer, but I thought it would be cute in here. The frame above the changing table I bought at Michael’s, it was already that color. I took one of the shower decorations that Karen made and framed it on a mat of chevron paper. I think it came out cute!

010

I think Bella approves (that or she really wanted baby M’s giant Mickey). Also, before anyone flips out, the bumpers will be coming out at first.

bella crib

The last part to come together was the bookshelf. I knew I wanted something relatively short but with enough space to put books and toys in…and I didn’t want to spend a lot of money. I found this one in natural wood at Wal-Mart for $17.99, we threw a couple coasts of spray paint on it, and although it doesn’t look perfect, it’s functional (and cheap!) The adorable prints above the bookshelf were made by Karen. She saw that I had pinned something similar that you can purchase, and told me she could probably make them for me, so she did! I bought the three frames on sale at Michael’s, as well as the two bins at the bottom for toys and things. I know the top looks bare…I had to remember to take down some lettering of baby M’s name I had sitting up there. Smile It’s super cute and I will show you after she is born!

016

I know the room looks so nice and neat and bare…but trust me, the mess is just hidden in the closet!

I used an old shoe rack I had to store some things on the floor, and had an old t-shirt organizer I was able to hang next to it. I sorted clothing by size (except for things that needed to be hung up) and put it in the pink dresser and it the hanging organizer.

011

001

I think it came out well, and I can’t wait to show baby M! As you can see, we did NOT spend a lot of money on this room. Everything was either gifted, hand me down, DIY, or found on sale and pieced together. It is possible! There are still a couple of things I would like to do….possibly a rug, and a shelf for one of the walls to put photos and such, but this is it for now unless something catches my eye between now and D-day! Thanks for reading about the nursery tour!

Currently

I stole this post idea from Brittany, and she’s not sure where it originated, but go over to her blog and say hi!I thought it would be fun to share some things currently going on, things I am currently liking, etc. So here we go!

Currently watching: FOOTBALL! I am so glad it is back in my life. The TV stays on games all day Saturday and Sunday, an I absolutely love it. Also loving the new SEC Network, and looking forward to some of my favorite fall shoes coming back on (19 Kids and Counting, Grey’s Anatomy, The Walking Dead)

DSC_0443

2011 throwback, we love football!

Currently listening to: The radio. I have been looking for the NSYNC cd but haven’t had luck finding it. I mainly listen to KLOVE or country stations.

Currently thinking about: All things baby, labor, and delivery. It occupies all my thoughts these days. I am admittedly very anxious and a bit scared about giving birth and the uncertainties. Ready to be done with that part!

IMG_2083

We somehow managed to fit all of this from my shower into the nursery!

Currently trying to figure out: A lot of things! Ha! We are still unpacking the house so figuring out where to put things etc. to get it finished up has been at the top of my list for sure.

Currently looking forward to: The arrival of baby M! It’s getting so close now (hopefully no more than three weeks!) I can’t believe I will be a mom soon, it’s so crazy.

baby shower3

Currently reading: Baby books and trying to catch up on magazines. I have a huge (huge) stack, and I ended up tossing some because there is just no way I can make it through all of them.

Currently making me happy: Being back in the town we first lived in after we got married (Bobby’s hometown) has made me really happy. We fit in so much better here and are very much enjoying being involved in our old church again, and just being here!

QOTD: What is going on with you currently? Answer one of the above questions or post this post series on your blog!

I want to encourage you to encourage you to take the Fiber Choice consumer challenge, hosted on www.fiberchoice.com/consumerchallenge.

PRO Compression Review + Giveaway

It’s summer in the south. It’s hot. I am in my last four weeks of pregnancy. This is a recipe for misery, but mainly for swelling! I have tried to be really careful the past few months with putting my feet up and drinking lots of water, but sometimes you just need a little extra help to make your legs and feet feel extra taken care of!

When PRO Compression contacted me about doing a review and giveaway, I was happy to oblige as my poor legs need the support right now!

procompression

As a runner, I am no stranger to compression socks. I wear them during a lot of my runs, and most importantly to recover with after all long runs. These socks can help speed up your recovery time, and improve your blood flow. Plus, they just feel really good on my legs and feet. I can feel a difference once I put them on, aahhhh!

procompression2

They have graduated compression that promotes circulation. The compression pushes fluid up from your feet and ankles, through your legs out past the socks towards your knees (which is what reduces the swelling).

mspp__77033.1406899686.1280.1280

I had a hard time choosing between the pink argyle I got and these awesome purple ones!

Something else I love is that these socks are designed and manufactured in the USA! Not to mention, they are always coming out with cute new designs and colors!

PRO Compression has a way for you to get your marathon socks or sleeves at 40% off! Yes, what a steal I agree. Stock up for the fall racing season! Simply enter code BLG14 at checkout!

Pregnancy Update: Week 36

One more week until I am considered full term! I fell like a ticking time bomb now, it’s so weird knowing I could go into labor any day. I had my weekly appointment yesterday, and I we discussed my constant cramping. She said baby M is right behind my pubic bone and probably pressing on some nerves, but cramping can be a good sign of progress, too. We are going to do an ultrasound next week to see if I am still measuring two weeks ahead. I am up a total of 26 pounds, and my doctor is very happy with the way things are going as of now. I have been more anxious/nervous trying to get things together knowing it could really be any time now, it definitely feels more “real!”

36weeks bump

Symptoms: Constant period like cramps of varying intensity, insomnia, general feeling of being tired and run down. Definitely have the pregnant waddle down pat! Just an “uncomfortable” feeling, nothing out of the ordinary, I would just call it “normal pregnancy misery” aside from the cramps. Everything else is still pretty much the same. My skin is super clear, just having slight swelling (it’s SO HOT here!), belly button STILL has not completely popped out! My eyesight is noticeably more blurry and my brain is foggy as well.

Baby’s Size: Honeydew

Maternity Clothes: My generous friend Jen sent me more clothes! It’s been such a blessing to not have to buy much, and I know this will hold me over until the end!

Stretch Marks: Same ole same ole, fingers crossed!

Sleep: Eh. Still getting up to pee between 2-5 times a night. Trying to stay super hydrated with the issues I had with contractions last week, which makes sleeping for long stretches harder!

Miss Anything: Being able to stand unassisted? I am getting to the point where I think if I sat on the floor I would be stuck there all day until Bobby came home from work to help me up. Movement in general is just harder these days.

Cravings: Popsicles! I eat 2-3 a day. Also sweets/chocolate.

36weeks bump3

This is my “OhMyGoshBobby stop taking random pictures” face.

Aversions: Boring me again, with the beef and chicken. I can only do it in small doses. Well, all meals are small these days or I feel awful after.

Looking Forward To: Being done with this stage! I am admittedly an anxious person already, so this “any day now” business is very distracting, it’s hard to get my work done during the day.

What I’m Loving: Chatting with people about the baby, everyone asks me about her now at the store, church, etc. It’s fun! Also, the nursery is VERY close to completion!

Did you see yesterday’s post on recovering a glider? It has a nursery sneak peek in it!

recover glider

Workouts: None. After being admitted last week, I have been on a modified bed rest of sorts. No exercise, limit walking and climbing stairs, no lifting, etc. Rest rest rest (which is SO hard for me to do!)

QOTD: Did you feel like a ticking time bomb when you were in your last month?

Are you good at following your doctors orders when you are sick/have surgery etc.?
