WIN Detergent Giveaway and Review

I was recently given the opportunity to review Win detergent. I have been hearing about it for a little while, and was very curious since well, we sweat pretty hard in the Montgomery household.

win detergent

I would be lying if I said we have never had to throw out dri fit clothing due to a terrible stink that just won’t go away no matter how many times time I try and wash said clothing. it’s really sad, because my favorite shirts I wear most often…which means they get the most stink…and well, you get the picture. I don’t want to throw out my favorite workout clothes!

DSC_0116

I was sent two bottles of Win sports detergent, original WIN, and WIN green. I really like the smell of the detergent, and I have to say, my clothes DO smell better after using it! My only qualm is that the detergent is very very liquidy as opposed to the thicker formulas of other detergents. Because of this, when I try and pour it into the cap, I manage to get it everywhere! Maybe just a personal issue on my part, and definitely not a reason to not buy it, especially since it gets the job done!

Also, don’t think that just because it’s cold out that you don’t sweat and don’t need this detergent. When I wear lots of layers, I actually sweat a ton. Also, I don’t own as many cold weather running clothes so they get worn more = more stink. Another good reason to use Win in the winter is because we typically go indoors to the gym more in the winter and let’s face it, no one wants to be “the stinky lady/guy” at the gym!

WIN has given me the opportunity to do a giveaway here on the blog. One winner will receive a full sized bottle of each, the original detergent and the green. Also, if you don’t win, or just want to buy  it anyway, you can use the coupon code WINGIVE1 for $1 a bottle of WIN.

Photo Dump November 2014

Apparently my phone refuses to backup because my storage is full, so I did one of the things I for some reason dislike doing (time consuming? Not sure?) and dumped my photos off of my phone, so I thought I would share some with you that haven’t made it onto the blog or Instagram (I don’t think).

Design Your Own runDisney Race

Hey guys! I know a lot of folks are heading out to Disneyland today to run the runDisney inaugural Avengers half marathon this weekend. I am super jealous and hope you have a great time. Check out this post I wrote for Fitfluential on tips for running a Disneyland race.

042

Disneyland marathon weekend 2013

I can’t wait to read everyone’s race recaps on the event! I really REALLY wish I was running Star Wars in January, but I completely missed registration by time I had made up my mind. There is always next year! Bobby loves Star Wars so I think we would have a blast. There are just too many races and not enough time off of work.

747562-1033-0014s

Still can’t believe I was pregnant during Dopey!

Being in the thick of runDisney race season and not being there is tough. They are my favorite races and while it is fun to read everyone else’s experiences, it’s nothing like being there yourself. So that got me thinking. If you could plan a runDisney race complete with theme, course, what would the medal look like, runner’s perks, etc.? I would love to see your ideas of “the perfect runDisney race”. You can be as vague or as detailed as you would like! If I get some good ones I would love to feature them on my blog, and who knows, maybe runDisney will be listening!

So, to give you an idea of what I mean, here is one that I came up off the top of my head for an example:

Theme: Pixar Half Marathon weekend

Races: kids races, 5k, 10k, half marathon

Course: I’m not sure how this would flesh out distance wise, but it would end inside of Hollywood studios near the Toy Story Mania ride with an after party in Hollywood studios. Maybe if we ran through EPCOT and the boardwalk and then Hollywood studios we wouldn’t be on the road much and therefore could start the race later in the day (like 7:00) Or maybe it would be a night race?  Of course, there would be tons of Pixar characters on the race course!

Medal: Each race would have a different Pixar theme. My favorites are Nemo, Monsters Inc., Toy Story, a Bug’s Life, and Cars. I’m sure we could come up with some really cool designs based on some of those movies.

-Runner’s would be given 3 fastpasses to rides or shows dealing with PIXAR for the weekend. (Bug’s life, toy Story, Monster’s Inc. laugh floor, Buzz lightyear space ranger spin, Living seas with nemo, Nemo musical).

-Maybe a fun scavenger hunt where if you get character photos with X number of Pixar characters during the race (or race weekend, in the parks?) you get a special commemorative item.

-The expo would have a costume contest where you show off your Pixar race costume at a certain time and can win prizes.

743213-1021-0038s

-runDisney and New Balance could partner to make Pixar character running shoes.

QOTD: OK so those are my ideas to get you started. Feel free to comment with your ideas or send them to me via email: heatherslookingglass@gmail.com. I can’t wait to read and feature your ideas!

What I’m Loving: Newborn Addition

I have done posts about what I am loving before, but I thought it was time to do a baby edition. I always enjoyed seeing what products other moms used so hopefully someone finds this helpful!

Infanito Go GaGa Gym: This is a great place to do tummy time with your baby, and Emma Kate loves looking at the mirror and the mobile that winds up and plays music. This will usually keep her entertained for 10-20 minutes and is a nice change of scenery. The best thing about it is that it folds up really easily so is very portable!

activity mat

Boppy newborn lounger: A friend of mine gave me her lounger when her kids outgrew it. At first I wasn’t even sure I was going to use it, but it has been my number one baby item and used on a daily basis. For the first three weeks of EK’s life, this is where she took every nap. I would move the boppy from the couch to the bedroom to the kitchen and she would just lay in it and look around, and then fall asleep. I will be sad when she outgrows it and gets more mobile!

boppy

HALO Bassinest: I wrote a full review on this the other day, but I am singing it’s praises again. Super convenient for little babies to sleep next to your bed.

HALO bassinest1

Soothie pacifiers: We started giving Emma Kate a pacifier about a week after she was born, and we have tried many many brands with this being the ONLY one she will take. These are a must in the car or when she is really fussy or overtired.

soothie

Motorola video monitor: We didn’t get this until a couple of weeks ago, and it is amazing. I love being able to hear her make noises then flip on the screen to make sure she is ok without having to run into whatever room she is in immediately. The parent unit has rechargeable batteries in it, so I carry it around with me and don’t need a cord which is awesome.

Christmas baby clothes: Just because they are super fun and I can’t wait to put Emma Kate in festive outfits! The kind folks at OshKosh B’gosh sent us a care package of the most adorable baby clothes!

Emma Kate’s Newborn Photos: By Destiny Tillery

When I was six months pregnant, I started looking around for photographers for Emma Kate’s newborn pictures. I haven’t had professional photos done since our wedding, we had the best wedding photographers in nyc. It’s just not something we typically spend money on. However, I knew I wanted newborn pictures of our baby, all the ones I have seen are so adorable!

I found Destiny Tillery photography through a Google search of my area, and am so glad that I did! The pictures on her website are just beautiful, her prices were reasonable, and I loved that she had her own studio full of props, headbands, and backdrops.

Once we booked our session, Destiny was great with communicating with me about what I wanted for the session. She told me to bring any props I wanted to use, and we discussed any specific poses that I liked that I had seen on her website or anywhere else. I ended up bringing a Minnie Mouse hat and a Saints headband, and other than that told her to have fun and let her creative juices flow!

Destiny and EK after brushing her hair and getting her posed for her pictures!

Destiny’s studio is at her home, and I loved seeing all the things that went into the session to keep my baby happy. The room was warm and dark, she utilized white noise, a hot water bottle, and swaddling so that Emma Kate would sleep through the session. A lot goes into newborn posing, and Destiny took a ton of time with us making sure everything looked just right.

While the photos were being taken, Bobby and I were able to relax on a comfy couch. Destiny even had a basket of snacks and a refrigerator of drinks and coffee for us to enjoy.

A couple of weeks after the session, we set up a time to go look at the proofs. I went back to her studio where she had a flat screen TV on the wall. She had set the photos to music on a slideshow for me to view, and then we discussed photo packages and pricing. It was very laid back and such a great experience!

There are so many great pictures, but I wanted to share some of my favorites!

HALO Bassinest Swivel Sleeper Review

When I was pregnant, I was contacted by the makers of  the HALO bassinest swivel sleeper. At the time, I had no idea what it was, but was familiar with halo because of their SleepSacks. After doing some research, I decided I needed the bassinest since we were planning on having Emma Kate sleep in our room in the beginning anyway. I was excited to receive the bassinest and get it set up next to our bed.

With its unique dual-swivel design, the Bassinest Swivel Sleeper allows baby to sleep as close as Mom wants – even right next to her in bed. It allows your baby to sleep next to you without the dangers of her actually being IN bed with you. The sides are mesh, so you can see through the wall and check on your baby even while still lying down at night.

HALO bassinest1

It was really easy to assemble, however it is very heavy, so once you get it in place hopefully you won’t need to move it! Because of the awesome swivel capability, you can put it right up against your bed and still “swivel” it away easily to get in and out of bed. The height is also adjustable, too so it is level with most beds. The side wall closest to your bed is collapsible, so it’s really easy to lean in and pick up baby without having to get up out of your bed.

There is also a front panel that includes a light with two brightness settings, music/sounds, a nursing timer, and a vibration on two different levels (all of these have auto shut off). I cannot tell you how many times in the night I used the nightlight feature. It’s just bright enough to check on baby without waking everyone up by turning on a lamp or overhead light.

HALO bassinest

There are also storage pockets so you can put things like pacifiers, burp cloths, etc. within easy reach but also not cluttering up your nightstand.

HALO bassinest2

Want more information on the bassinest swivel sleeper? Check out the below video:

The HALO Bassinest swivel sleeper is available for sale at select retailers.

I was also provided with a SleepSack for Emma Kate. She flails her arms and legs so. much. that she was constantly waking herself up from sleep, so this form of swaddling works great for us. Sometimes she fights it at first, but once she calms down it really helps her to feel snug and secure and helps her sleep longer, which this mama loves!

Here are some great tips provided to me for best sleeping practices with an infant:

ALWAYS

  • Room-share, but don’t bed share; the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend against bed sharing as it can lead to an increased risk for accidental suffocation.
  • Use a crib or bassinet that meets current safety standards with a firm mattress that fits snugly and is covered with only a tight-fitting crib sheet.
  • Remove all soft bedding and toys from your baby’s sleep area (this includes loose blankets, bumpers, pillows and positioners). The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests using a wearable blanket instead of loose blankets to keep your baby warm.
  • Offer a pacifier when putting baby to sleep. If breastfeeding, introduce pacifier after one month or after breastfeeding has been established.
  • Breastfeed, if possible, but when finished, put your baby back to sleep in his or her separate safe sleep area alongside your bed.

NEVER

  • Never put your baby to sleep on any soft surface (adult beds, sofas, chairs, water beds, quilts, sheep skins etc.)
  • Never dress your baby too warmly for sleep; keep room temperature 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Never allow anyone to smoke around your baby or take your baby into a room or car where someone has recently smoked.
Be sure to follow HALO on

Facebook,

Twitter,

Pinterest, and

Google+.

QOTD: Did your baby sleep in your room at first? Do you/did you swaddle your baby?

What I’m Loving Lately November 2014

I haven’t done one of these posts in awhile, so there are a lot of new things I am loving that I wanted to share with you. Maybe you will find a new favorite. Smile

Blue Bell Spiced Pumpkin Pecan ice cream: Yall, I am kinda glad I just found out about this recently, otherwise I would have gained ten pounds by now. Yes it tastes like fall in a carton and yes I eat it directly out of said carton with a spoon.

IMG_0731 (2)

Dr. Brown’s nose and face wipes: The folks at Dr. Brown’s were kind enough to send me several baby related items before EK was born, and it’s fun to try out all the different things. I really love these wipes for snotty noses and general face wiping when we are out and about. Convenient packaging and easy to throw in the diaper bag. Two thumbs up!

IMG_0752 (2)

Fabletics: I have heard a lot of things about Fabletics clothing line, both good and bad, but wanted to test it out for myself. I picked out this outfit and was pretty happy with it.The hoodie fits well and is really, really soft and is my favorite piece. The capris have a nice silky feel to them but were a little snug in the legs/felt a little like compression tights. I do love the fold over waistband. The white tank is lightweight and soft but the arm holes hang down really low under my armpits which isn’t my favorite, so not as crazy about that particular tank but really like the capris and hoodie.

IMG_0772 (2)

Cooler weather: It’s finally fall in Mississippi! We have had temps in the 90’s up until last week, and now we have had temps in the 20’s! Go figure. I went on a run the other night and it was just cool enough to be chilly while running but not cold, it really was perfect.

IMG_0780 (2)

Starbucks red cups: You know what this means! It’s time to start listening to Christmas music. I can’t help it. We only have such a limited time together I must cherish it. Also stoked it’s finally cool enough to get my favorite fall beverages in hot versions and not as frozen or iced ones.

A Day in the Life…October 2014

I haven’t written one of these posts in awhile, and I definitely haven’t done one since Emma Kate was born. I thought it would be fun to document what I do in a day so you can see what things look like right now.

5:00- The baby starts fussing in her sleep. Her eyes are closed and she isn’t wake, but is being so noisy I can’t sleep (anyone else have a noisy newborn when they sleep?!?) She was last up right around midnight to eat, so this is a good stretch of time for her since she went back down a little after 1:00.

6:00- After staring at the ceiling for an hour, I finally decide to get up and feed Emma Kate who is now actually waking up. First we have a diaper and outfit change.

IMG_0568

6:15- I let the dogs out to potty, and feed the baby. Then let the dogs back in, and feed them.

6:30- Drink a glass of water then fix some coffee. Put baby in bouncy seat where she looks at the mobile hanging from it for awhile.

6:35- Get on my laptop and check my email and blog, check Facebook and Twitter etc. as long as EK is entertained.

6:50- Well, that didn’t last long. Get baby out of bouncer, try to burp her again, change her diaper, and talk to her and the dogs for a few minutes.

7:15-Put Emma Kate on her activity mat where she looks at her mobile for awhile. I hop back on the computer to do some more work.

7:30- Baby is bored, so we talk and play and sing and look at books until she gets sleepy. After some rocking and a pacifier, she drifts off for a nap, which is good because some days we don’t really nap at all during the day aside from 2-3 fifteen minute cat naps. I put on a load of laundry and jump back on the laptop for some work and emailing clients.

9:00- I realize I am hungry and that I haven’t eaten breakfast yet so I grab some Chobani out of the refrigerator and eat it in front of the computer where I start on a blog post.

10:00- I hear the baby fussing, and she is ready to get up and have her diaper changed. I feed her again, and put her in her swing for a few minutes so I can let the dogs out and grab a glass of water. I sit on the couch and turn on the tv for a few minutes while I hold and snuggle with EK.

10:30- The phone rings, it’s a client who says they will be quick but we end up on the phone for 45 minutes. I tried to keep Emma as entertained as I can while on the phone but she still fusses a bit. Luckily, the client has kids so they are understanding.

11:15- It’s a nice day so we decide to get out of the house and go for a walk, and I hope that it will help Emma Kate drift off to sleep, she loves the motion of the stroller. She does fall asleep, and I am afraid she will wake up so I end up walking for 45 minutes.

IMG_0335

12:00-I bring the baby carrier inside with the baby in it and thankfully she stays asleep for awhile so I can grab some lunch, put the clothes in the dryer, and text Bobby at work.

1:30- EK is awake again and not too happy to be in her carrier. Another diaper and feeding later and she is happy again. She sits in the newborn Boppy lounger and looks around for awhile. I fold clothes on the couch next to the baby and talk to her, then do some dishes in the sink.

2:30- I try to get her to take a nap but she is having none of it. She starts crying and fussing and yawning but refuses to sleep. I swaddle her, put on the white noise app on the iPad, give her a pacifier, and walk her around her rom trying to calm her down. We go back and forth from the rocking chair to walking around and homegirl still won’t give up.

3:30- She finally dozes off and I put her in her crib for a nap. I am excited that I can get a couple hours of uninterrupted work done and finish my blog post, and open up my laptop.

3:37- EK starts screaming. So much for a nap. I try to pat her and shush her and get her to doze back off but she is full blown awake and unhappy. I try putting her in the swing, bouncer, boppy, and just holding her but everything seems to tick her off, especially my singing. I go from sitting to standing to walking, slowly losing my nerve. I feed her again at 4:15 hoping it will calm her down but no such luck.

unnamed (17)

5:00- I text Bobby telling him I am having a hard time and he tells me he is on his way home, thankfully.

5:15-I pass EK off to Bobby and go into the other room to decompress. Bobby takes her upstairs and we basically play pass the baby for the next couple of hours. She will get so close to sleep and then wake up again.

6:45- I tell Bobby she likes walks, so he puts her in her carrier and takes her for a stroller walk. She screams the whole way so he gives up and comes back, but I am not giving up so I start running with her in the stroller, looping around the driveway over and over and she stops crying. Bobby takes over because I got a side stitch, and he takes her around the block. He comes in, takes the carrier upstairs, and she stays asleep for exactly five minutes before she wakes up unhappy.

7:30- We feed her again and go upstairs to attempt to watch TV. We put her on the boppy lounger with the white noise app, gave her a baby massage and she finally fell asleep. We are able to watch TV, and I get back on the computer to get work and blog stuff done. I hate working at night since it’s the only time I get to see Bobby, but I don’t have much choice these days.

9:45- I empty the dishwasher, do a little picking up in the living room, and realize how tired I am.

10:00- I take an extra long shower, hang up some clothes in my closet, and check my email one more time before getting in bed where I read for a total of four minutes before falling asleep at 10:45. Bobby has the late shift, so he will take care of the baby’s feeding around midnight, and then we play the rest of the night by ear. Sometimes she’s up at 2 or 3, sometimes not until 5 if we are lucky, then it’s time to do it all over again!

QOTD: Does your baby like your singing? Do they like to ride in the car or stroller?

Body After Baby: One Month

I posted Emma Kate’s one month update last week, and now it’s time for my update! I know these types of posts can be kind of touchy, so please keep in mind 1.) I have been cleared by my doctor for running, and 2.) These are MY personal feelings on my body, my progress, etc. Everyone is different, some people don’t care about working out again after a baby or losing the weight, but it is important for me to have goals and milestones to keep myself going.

I lost 17 pounds in the first ten days post partum. I was feeling great about myself and thought “hey, this isn’t so hard! I am still eating like I am pregnant and not working out, this is great!” But then..I stalled. From day 17 until now I have lost exactly one pound.

IMG_0672

I know this is normal, but it can still be frustrating. But, as they say, it took 9 months for me to gain it, so I just need to be patient.

It’s not as much about the way I look, but more about the way I feel. I am chafing in places I never chaffed before, feel heavy on my feet running, and can’t fit into any of my pants or shorts which makes me feel uncomfortable. I’m back in most of my regular tops, but still in maternity bottoms (and stretchy forgiving capri pants to run in!)

one month

For month two I am going to focus more on what I am eating. I know I formed some bad habits while I was pregnant and I need to break them. Right now my biggest issue is time. I am so busy with my job and the baby I am having a hard time fitting in anything else. Working out is something that keeps me sane and calm, so when I don’t get to do it I am even more stressed. I am home alone with her all day, and sometimes Bobby works odd hours which can make it difficult to get a workout in other than walking the baby in the stroller.

one month3

So how exactly are my workouts going? Slow, but I am doing more at this stage than I thought I would be doing which makes me proud. Last week I ran four times. Well, run/walked. 2 miles twice and 2.25 miles twice. Yesterday I ran/walked 3 miles, a new post baby PDR. It’s slow, but I am building my base back up for my upcoming races that I cannot wait to run, I miss it!

QOTD: When did you go back to working out after you had a baby? Do you struggle more with workouts or eating right?
