Cross Train or Remain the Same Challenge

I am going to be hosting a challenge for the month of April on Challenge Loop. It’s called “Cross Train or Remain the Same”. Why this challenge? This is something runners and non-runners can participate in for one thing. Particularly for runners, we have a bad habit of wanting to just run all the time and not add any cross training into our schedules. This can lead to burn out and injury. Some days your running muscles just need a rest, but you can still get in a good burn and strengthen other muscles by cross training. Cross training can be anything from yoga, to hiking, to riding your bike. So for the month of April I challenge YOU to cross train twice a week.

PRIZE:

Prizes? Oh yes, I will be randomly drawing a winner for a prize at the end of the month from the pool of participants. The winner will receive a Sony wireless Meb Keflezighi, water resistant MP3 player (value $70) Plus a surprise pack of some of MY personal favorite workout and running essentials (value $50).

DETAILS:

The challenge will run April 1 – April 30, 2013 and the official hashtag for the challenge is #CrossTrainOrRemainTheSame. To be eligible to win the prize, you must post on the challenge page at least 8 times. (Be sure to use the hashtag if you tweet about your workout!)

SIGN UP:

Sign up is free on Challenge Loop.

1) The easiest way to sign up is to go straight to my challenge link. Once you  click through you will be able to accept on that page.

2) You can also download the iPhone app “ChallengeLoop”, look for my challenge under “Prize Challenges”, and then accept from there. It’s super easy to check in from your iPhone. If you don’t have an iPhone app, you can still participate on the website!

So all you have to do to be eligible to win is cross train 8 times in the month of April and post on the challenge page each time you do so for a total of at least 8 times. May 1st I will randomly draw a winner and post their name on my blog. Remember, cross training can be any form of cardio workout that isn’t running. Let’s have our whole bodies be strong and in shape for the month of April! Good luck, go and sign up now!

  1. I love doing reformer Pilates it helps me with my running by keeping my muscles nice and stretched out.

Shame I can’t enter your challenge since I’m in Australia but its a great idea!

Can’t wait to play along! I actually love my two XT days, especially in the winter.

  4. Fun! Favorite form of cross training right now is yoga!

  5. While i love my running, I am a firm believer in cross training AND most definitely weight training. Plus, it helps prevent burnout.

  6. I love doing biking and elliptical work and pilates. I love cross-training and right now do it 3 times a week.

  7. I love doing all sorts of exercise! Lifting, Spinning, TKD, Yoga, Running, whateva 🙂

Heather will lifting count as cross training?

  15. While in NYC I plan to do Jillian Michael’s Shred on my cross training days. Once in florida I will probably bike ride. It’s a 2 mile ride into town, and then back home. Nice route!

  16. Jessica Mullins says:

Great idea! I’m not the best at cross training, so this is the perfect motivation!! Thanks.

  17. This sounds like a great challenge. Sucks that April comes with finals and work (not just one but possibly a 2nd one if I can get the interview). Since March is coming to an end I have thought of how I will spend my “free” time and came up with running 5x a week, with 3 strength training sessions for the month. And my goal is to “take a break” with yoga or playing some soccer with the boyfriend on the weekend. I believe cross training is essential and a great way to “rest” from running.

  18. I’m in! Focusing on that sub-2 on April 28, and I know I need to take care of my legs and body. Signed up, woo!

  19. Chlsebrz says:

I’m in. I cross train with dance/aerial classes and rock climbing so this is a great way to track those extra workouts.
