Pregnancy Update: Week 26

So sorry for the late post everyone! We had a great time at the beach, and then headed back to our old house where we have no internet, so I am a little behind with everything. Week 26 has been interesting, I feel like I have hit the uncomfortable 3rd tri a little early. Take a look below.

Oh boy. I am having a tough time swallowing the fact that I just can’t do things like I used to. I can’t ride in the car as long without my back screaming and feet swelling, I can’t clean or pick up the house without getting out of breath, and I get mentally exhausted way more often than I should. Things are getting tougher physically, and the thought that it’s just going to get harder until Baby M arrives is something I am in total denial about.

Symptoms: Forgetful (I forgot my phone in the bathroom in Destin). Back pain if I sit in any position for too long or do any bending over like trimming bushes, etc. Foot swelling when I ride in the car 2+ hours, tired, feeling slow and run down most of the time. This scares me for what the third trimester will feel like! A new big symptom has emerged in full force this week: Heartburn. It was really bad at the beach, and tums have been my BFF.

Baby’s Size: Head of Lettuce

Maternity Clothes: I got two tops and skirts from the Destination Maternity Outlet in Florida, I was seriously lacking on things to wear to church.

Stretch Marks: Nothing new

Sleep: Some nights I only get up once to pee, some nights 3-4 times. I was exhausted every night at the beach so I had no trouble falling asleep. Only a couple of times did I struggle to get back to sleep.

Miss Anything: Feeling like an athlete, feeling in shape, etc. Is this what it feels like to get old? I’m not a fan.

Cravings: Cold, sweet things like fruit, slushies etc. It’s VERY warm down here in the south now so I am hot most of the time.

Aversions: Still not a big fan of chicken or beef. Or veggies.

Looking Forward to: Next Friday I go to the dr. and am having another ultrasound!

What I’m Loving: Baby kicks, getting comments and congratulations from people (the nice comments haha).

Workouts: Walked on the beach every day I was there, also walked a lot around the outlet mall. Other than that I took it easy.

  2. I got very discouraged as I got further along. I ended up in pre- term labor 3 times so I had to really cut back on physical activity and that was really difficult. Especially with a 5 year old who was used to me being very active. Now that my daughter is here and only 8 days old, I’m really wanting to move more, but have to take it slow. That’s frustrating also. I just keep thinking there is an end in sight and I will get back to my more active self soon 🙂

  4. I can’t ride in the car for long, either… my legs and butt get so tired of sitting! And my back hurts by the end of the day which I just learned is because the baby is sitting posterior (sunny side up, mostly toward my back). Overall, I still feel good but when I get tired of the not-so-fun symptoms I focus on the prep I can do for the baby and realizing he/she will be here before I know it!

  5. Oh the forgetfulness is one of the worst. I feel like such a dummy sometimes. Even my ability to speak is affected. lol
    I hear you on the slowing down. I haven’t ran in a couple weeks, but I think it’s mostly due to the heat and humidity. I can’t stand it, especially with having the extra weight on me. Yoga and indoor weight training from here on out.

  7. YES! It is so frustrating when you can’t even bend over to do the dishes or just go up the stairs without feeling winded. I kept saying at the end of the pregnancy, HOW ON EARTH DID I RUN A 1/2 MARATHON a few weeks ago?!? It is crazy how it just hits you like a ton of bricks and just knocks you down. But Jen is right, once she is out you will feel better! YOU do look super cute with your bump!

    You look beautiful. Hang in there. I remember feeling the same way just before the 3rd trimester but it passed quickly and I was feeling much more like my old self. I found that slow leisurely walks helped my body and mind feel better. I also enjoyed spending time in a swimming pool.

  9. Yes! It does get discouraging a bit when you have to slow down in pregnancy….but I just took it one day at a time. My goal was to run a half marathon when I was 8 months pregnant but I had to listen to my body…I was lucky to run 2 miles on my due date 🙂

    • sadly my pelvic pain would never allow that. I never thought I would be someone who had trouble running while pregnant!

    I totally feel you with the heartburn, it’s the worst!! I have never experienced heartburn prior to pregnancy and it’s been daily with me now. I’ve been worn out this week too. I look forward to the end when we supposedly get all that “nesting” energy!!

  11. Oh no! I hope the heartburn is just a temporary thing. That would be tough to have until baby comes. Good luck in your last trimester! Can’t believe how fast time is going by!

  12. Oh heartburn is so not fun! I had that too! The third trimester definitely starts getting uncomfortable. But it will be so worth it when you hold that sweet girl in your arms the first time! It’s getting so close!!!!! 🙂

  13. I’m pretty sure being pregnant, in and of itself, counts as a workout! I like to walk on the beach too. I get too bored just chilling on a towel all day.

  14. I was wogging throughout, so while I got a lot slower, I was never completely inactive. I just loved being pregnant, though, except for the leg swelling. So much swelling…

  15. Compression socks! You are a runner, you have some. Ask your doc if you can wear them and for how long. I forgot to share mine with wifey when she was pregnant… didn’t realize until later that DUH, we could have done that.

    • I have been wearing them a lot! We have just been traveling in the car so much with the move and going out of town etc. there is just no avoiding it sometimes 🙁 Being in the car for hours just doesn’t do well for us pregnant ladies. I sleep in them some nights, too!

  16. I feel like your updates are giving me pointers on what to prepare for in the next couple of weeks (since I’m 2 behind you).
    I hear you on the heartburn. Early on, I would only get it after eating tomato soup (my favorite) because of the acid (or so I guessed), but now it’s starting to bother me with a lot of foods. Ugh.
    It is discouraging to get out of breath more easily and back off the usual fitness routine; I’m feeling the same, but I’m not letting it get me down because our bodies are working in overdrive nourishing our little ones. Like somebody said above, just *being* pregnant is a workout of its own! 🙂

    • Yes to tomatoes! The first time I noticed it was a couple weeks ago when hubby made lasagna, I thought I was going to die!

    You look super cute! But yes, this is what it feels like to get old and grow humans. LOL. And unlike what celebrities might claim…your body is never the same after you have a baby! So there’s no reason to stress over it. Just do what you can and enjoy the rest. You will miss parts of being pregnant! I promise. When I was pregnant I tried to just take advantage of not being able to work out with intensity. This is your chance to do things that are low impact and not stress or worry about how many miles you need to run this weekend or if you should add speed work or all that other stuff runners worry about all the time. My favorite thing to do at the beach is just sit/lay there and relax. Which I don’t get to do anymore because there’s always little people tossing sand on me and asking for snacks. Giggle.

  19. Instead of tums, try papaya enzymes for the heartburn! I was popping tums like candy for a couple of days. A friend told me about papaya (i don’t like the fruit, but it does the trick also) and so I found then enzyme pills at whole foods. One of those babies kept the heartburn at bay, like whoa. :). You look great, by the way! Way to rock a healthy pregnancy 🙂
