Puppy Love and Mileage

So if you know me, you know I love my puppies. No, they are not really puppies, one is 2 and one is almost 9, but it’s kinda like how parents call their grown children their babies. Yeah, I guess I will be one of those people. So, with my love being expressed, I do wish one thing…that I had a puppy running buddy. My poor 8 pound dogs wouldn’t last 5 minutes on a run. Not only because they are so small, but so undisciplined and extremly distracted. We would get nowhere.

I read articles all te time about tis person and their dog, and so on and so forth. i even read an article in Runners World about a lady who ran a half marathon with her dog, and he got a medal, too. It was really cute, and I was kinda jealous.

So I try and think of all the things I love about my non running dogs, like….they are small enough to sit in my lap, or sleep on the bed, and I can easily carry them around and restrain them from attacking small children (which they don’t do….usually.)

But really, who could not love this sweet face anyway?

and no, this one is not dead. She just likes the coolness of the tile floor. Smart girl. I didn’t want to disturb her.

Today the humidity was fortunately lower, like yesterday, except the sun was out today while it was overcast yeaterday. Bobby ran with me this time, and we finished in a decent time. This month’s running isn’t where I wanted it to be, but it is DEFINATELY better than last months. A 10 day vaca and 2 death in the family will really hurt your miles, which is fine, but I was determined to do better this moth, which I have.

QOTD: Do you run with your dog? how far?

Comments

  1. I run with my dog. He’s actually the reason I started running – I needed to keep him from driving me crazy so running tired him out! I take him with me whenever I’m running 6km or less and it’s not super hot. He’s a much better runner in the winter!

  2. Are you kidding? LOL I wouldn’t be able to run with my dog. She gets distracted and is also a scardey cat.

  3. I don’t have a dog. My bf and I have been discussing what dog to get for awhile now. I’d like one that can run with me.

  4. I wish I had a dog to run with! My mom runs with her Australian Shepherd mix all the time. They are planning to do a 2 mile doggy dash in September! I think the most they’ve run together is about 5 miles, but I have heard of people doing more. They do bring water for the dog, and tend to run on trails where there are streams and places for the dog to cool off. Your dogs are sooo cute!

  5. jorydanielle – My dog is an australian shepherd too! Best running partner ever!

  6. I wish I had a dog to run with me, but alas…I really don’t like big dogs! Instead I am stuck with an overweight pug who lays down on her back if I try to walk her more than 5 feet down the sidewalk and a boston terrier who has had $3,000 knee surgery. So, I am runnin’ solo!

  7. My dog likes to run in bursts, and is a scaredy cat so would think I was chasing her. I can’t run with her. Good thing I don’t run much anyways….yet.

And I am totally going to be a mom who calls her kids her babies. I still call Makenzie baby M all the time.

  8. Cute!!
    McAllister’s sweet tea…yum!

  9. I used to run with Nati until he was 4. I got him up to 4 miles at a time. Then I learned that labs are prone to hip problems so I made him retire and take up swimming. We still throw the ball for him to chase on the golf course, but no distance running!
    Bella is precious :)

  10. Awwww, what sweeties! Your babies are so adorable! I can’t run with my 15 pound fluff-monsters either–they’d pass out from the heat….or laziness. I do try to walk them at least a mile a day though.

I always think–even though my little monsters can’t run with me, nothing beats coming home from a run and having two little fluffballs greet me triumphantly at the door :)

  11. I’m really not a dog person but I have to say, yours are cute!

  12. I just came across your awesome blog! Your doggies are adorable!

I have a beagle that is so funny and cute, but is not a good running partner at all. She is fast, but doesn’t have much stamina. Plus, she’s a scenthound, so she constantly wants to hunt whatever delicious smell she catches…. Oh, well….
