4.09 For Boston

I spent my morning glued to the computer, watching this.

I jumped up and down and cheered as Shalane and Kara crossed the finish line. I did the same with the men’s race, not caring that I had just returned from the gym and could smell myself. I was on a runners high and I didn’t even race. I took the dogs for a walk, took a shower, and then we on the phone with a friend, a Boston area resident actually, when we heard about the explosions. I was sad, hurt, and very very angry. Runners and their families are great people. I can imagine the family members cheering wildly, waiting for a glimpse of their loved one approaching the finish line. How devastating of a day for all involved, and just a scary reminder that life is precious, and that there is evil in the world. The thing is, this could happen anywhere to any one of us on any given day. We are not promised tomorrow, so don’t take a single second for granted. Hug the neck of those you love, take a chance, face a fear. You only live once, so make the most of it.

Pray for the country, pray for the city of Boston, for the runners, and their families. Pray for the evil in the world, that those with bad intentions would have a change of hear.

Today, I will be running 4.09 miles in honor of the lives lost, people injured, and the hurting families. Four hours and nine minute was the time on the clock when the first bomb went off, so it seems fitting. Will you join me and do the same? I will be praying the whole way.

Happy Saturday! I hope you are having a glorious weekend. So who watched the opening ceremonies last night? Thoughts? Favorite parts? I can’t wait for sports all day everyday. My poor DVR is going to get a workout!

1.) How/Why did you start blogging?

I started blogging because I’d planned to chronicle my training and efforts toward a potential Boston qualifying marathon. Shockingly (to me) and because I’m such a procrastinator, the BQ happened before I got the blog started, so I used it to track my training for my first Boston instead.

2.) Sum up your blog in a couple sentences

My blog is is a collection of rants and ruminations on running, fitness, food, family and whatever else I see fit to print, including some fun giveaways and product reviews.

3.)What do you wish to accomplish/achieve by blogging?

It’s simply my creative outlet, and my way of disciplining myself to write almost daily. If it helps me get some freelance writing gigs, all the better. What I didn’t anticipate are the amazing connections I’ve made with other runners around the world. I am humbled by the helpfulness and kindness that comes from people through the comments every day.

4.)What is your biggest healthy living accomplishment?

I went from fat girl to gym rat to runner and qualified for Boston at my second marathon. In my mind at the time, that was something not even on my radar as a possibility. It showed me that anything truly is possible and that I was setting the bar too low for myself in many areas of my life.
