We Love Boston

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who ran 4.09 miles this week for Boston. I got so many tweets, Facebook comments, and blog comments saying you ran, you prayed, you wished you could do more and I am so proud of each and every one of you.

My 4.09 miles was less than stellar, but I did it. I was dehydrated, hadn’t eaten enough, and it was 85 degrees outside with super high humidity. I was miserable, and grumpy. I finally realized, this run isn’t for ME, this run is for those who can’t. For those laying in hospital beds, or those who can never run again. It was an eye opener for me and just the smack I needed to set myself and my pains/frustrations aside and focus on someone else and their needs. I ran and I prayed. I prayed for the victims and their families. For the medical and rescue personnel. For everyone who witnessed the horrifying scene of that day, and for our country as a whole. I prayed for the evil in the world to be brought to justice, and for love to be shown among neighbors and fellow Americans. Now is not the time to fall apart, but the time to come together as one and fight. It wasn’t my fastest or prettiest run, but it had the most heart.

So again, a huge thanks to those that ran, walked, biked, or wore a race shirt sometime this week. You are all awesome, and I am sure the people of Boston appreciate you. <3

So many horrible things have been happening….we also need to pray for those in West Texas and what they are going through.

Weekly Recap: August Week 4

 

Happy Sunday! Honestly, this week there isn’t a ton to report since I came home on Monday sick after Healthy Living Summit. I did lots of sleeping and nose blowing, and was finally able to run Friday, but that was my first workout since Sunday. Let’s recap, shall we?

Saturday: Beast Body Bootcamp and 20 minutes stationary bike

eh. What can you do? It happens. 11 miles running for the week isn’t awful….well, two weeks before a half marathon it is, but I hadn’t done weights in a week, and I wanted to go into my race strong. Oh well! Rolling with the punches over here. I still have some lingering sniffles, but am hoping to tackle 11 miles tomorrow as my last (and only) double digit run before the half. I can’t believe it’s finally here! Have a great day everyone.

HLS 2012: Chobani Dinner at Evoo

 

On the Saturday night of Healthy Living Summit, I was invited along with a few other lovely blogger ladies to attend a special Chobani hosted dinner at a restaurant called Evoo. We took the shuttle to a nearby stop and walked to the restaurant.

They had a private room set up for us with two tables.

We found our seats and I took a look at what appeared to be an amazing menu!

Of course we were tweeting the whole time with the #ChobaniEvoo hashtag and sharing photos from the night, which was really fun. We started with a cocktail hour/time and then the food started coming out! (In the order it appears on the menu above)

Even though I don’t eat seafood I did try a bit of it. Smile The lamb and the dessert were my favorite parts, and I could have kept on eating. The chef then came out and talked to us about how they use yogurt as a substitute for certain ingredients in the dishes, it was really interesting!

Anne and I with our Verizon Wireless Samsung Galaxy SIII phones. We got to chat about how much we love them and got to use them this weekend! Friends, swipe makes my life so much easier. Also, 4G LTE is so super fast, I tell no lies.

All too soon it was time to say goodbye to our lovely hosts for the evening. It was so great to meet these ladies in person.

A huge huge thank you to Chobani for an amazing dinner with lots of great food and fun. It was so nice to relax and have some girl chat after the stresses of the Summit were over!

HLS 2012: Sunday Run and Boston Fun

 

Good morning! I am back home and oh it feels so good. Unfortunately, I seem to have taken home a little souvenir, a cold and runny nose. Boo! Either way, still good to be home and sleep in my own bed.

I Made It!

I am going to be skipping around a bit because well, I can, and because I want to go more in depth with the post for the Saturday sessions and with my cold I am not thinking straight and the post will be poorly written. So, I am going to jump to something a lot less thought provoking, all the fun we had on Sunday!

I was up at 7:00 for the 5k fun run. We all met in the lobby at 8:00, and most people seemed very sleepy from all the fun from the day before.

After our run, we had a farewell brunch which was absolutely delicious, and then I headed out to meet my boss at the travel agency I work for. She came in on the train and met me at Harvard square and we took the train to downtown Boston.

I found it so fascinating since I grew up in below-sea-level New Orleans where we have no underground anything.

We wandered around ate lunch, and did a lot of chatting.

We had a good time catching up, but before I knew it it was getting late and we took the train back so I could catch the hotel shuttle back to the Hyatt. It was so great to see her but I felt like a bump on a log because I was so tired from the summit!

I did some relaxing and hanging at the hotel before bedtime and heading home Monday morning! My next update will backtrack to Saturday!

HLS 2012: Cocktail Party

 

Friday night was the annual healthy living summit Cocktail party. I had a blast hanging out with old and new friends and of course taking pictures in the photo booth.

Good times were definitely had by all and I was sad to see when 10:00 rolled around. I think it was a great way to let the bloggers mingle before the sessions on Saturday and get to know each other!

Healthy Living Summit 2012: Day 1

Hi friends! Yesterday was a whirlwind of a day! I am so tired but having a blast! Ok, so let’s backtrack. My morning started off with a solo run along the river. I decided I probably wasn’t going to get up for the Saturday run, so I decided to take on a few miles on my own. Let me tell you, it was BLISS! Not only was it scenic, but oh my gosh low humidity and temps. I was in HEAVEN!

There was a nice path that went along the water with the road on the other side. There were plenty of other bikers and runners out and about.

We got everything ready for registration with only a few minor glitches. I was in the swag bag room with Mary and we were in charge of punching holes in people’s name badges and giving them their bags.

I Made It!

 

Well friends I arrived safely in Boston yesterday evening! I took a shuttle to the hotel in Cambridge.

I walked into the lobby and heard someone yell my name, it was Meghann! We said a quick hello and I checked in and headed to my room where my roomie Amanda was waiting as was this awesome plate from the hotel staff!

We chatted a bit and then decided to walk down to Trader Joe’s to grab a quick dinner before the fro  yo mini mingle. We ran into Lynda and she joined us. I was excited as this was my first Trader Joe’s experience,

We walked back to the hotel and I had time to scarf down my chicken wrap in the lobby before we left to get fro yo.

I could not get over the awesome weather and low humidity. We sat outside and enjoyed our treats! Meghann and I are both Verizon Wireless Ambassadors and wanted to take a picture together with our screens showing the same thing, but I didn’t have my phone on, whoops!

Boston Bound

 

Good morning friends! Big day for me. I jump on a plane and head to BOSTON today! I am so excited for Healthy Living Summit, and I can’t believe it’s HERE, and I can’t believe it’s been a year since Philly.

I arrive this evening and will immediately be going to my first mini mingle, meeting up with some of the attendees for fro-yo. Friday is registration and the cocktail party, and of course the sessions Saturday. I will be using my awesome new Samsung Galaxy S3 from Verizon Wireless to live tweet (#HLS12) during the summit. i will also be tweeting, and using Instagram to share photos with those of you at home.

*Awesome feature alert, when you are looking at the screen of the new Galaxy, the screen doesn’t go dark after a certain length of time. It detects your eyes looking at the screen and stays lit. Way cool, I love it!

A couple of things I gleaned from last year that I will be sure to carry into this year include…

-Leaving enough room in my suitcase for my epic swag bag.

-wearing comfortable shoes all weekend (except for dinners/parties) so I don’t get blisters walking around the city

-bring a jacket into the conference because it was cold last year!

-bring a notebook for note taking during the sessions. last year I scribbled on scratch paper which ended up being difficult to read.

-Take more pictures! While I did take a lot last year, I want to get more candid shots this year of everyone having a good time at the summit.

-Try to talk to as many people as I can. Last year was my first conference and I was a little nervous and didn’t branch out as much as I would have liked.

To say I am excited is a severe understatement. My next blog post will be direct from Boston!

Running on the Wall

 

hey guys! in case you missed it, I posted a second blog post yesterday about the revealing of the WDW 20th anniversary marathon medal! Please please go check it out, I even did a vlog for you, and it’s not just any old vlog. Smile

So I am in quite the panic because I am heading to my parents house for the night because tomorrow, I catch a plane for BOSTON for the Healthy Living Summit! Excited is an understatement. I have never been to Boston, and, I am speaking at the summit on Saturday. eekk! Yesterday I finished up my presentation (nothing like last minute eh?) and I can’t wait to meet everyone at the conference. Going. to be. epic. I can’t wait to share all the highlights and fun with you, so be sure to check out my blog for the next few days to follow along. Also follow #HLS12 on Twitter to stay up to date.

Ok, jumping all over the place here. I wanted to also tell you about a great company called Running on the Wall. (Facebook page here). They contacted me awhile back to see if I wanted to review one of their medal hangers. Yes please! Mine was hopelessly running out of space.  They let me pick my design, and sent it to me so quickly, everything went smoothly and their customer service is great. So, here is the one I chose:

They have a bunch of different sayings you an choose from, colors, and two sizes. You can also get a wall hanger for your race bibs! It came with nails and was easy to assemble the screws into the front. I highly recommend Running on the Wall if you are looking for a new medal hanger.

As Healthy Living Summit Draws Near…

 

About this time last year, I announced I was going to do something really fun…I was going to attend  the Healthy Living Summit in Philly! I snatched up a ticket quickly because I knew they would sell out fast. I booked a flight, and made plans to visit a new city, have fun, learn a lot, and make new friends. Let me tell you, I had a really great time getting to know people! Also, if you don’t have a blog but just love health and fitness, that’s ok, you can come!

Holy swag is what you are thinking, and holy swag is RIGHT!

I know some people are worried about meeting other bloggers in real life, or going to a new place and not being sure if it will be fun…well I can promise you HLS is fun!! I made some many new friends and connections, and it was great to finally meet some of the people I felt like I already knew. It was also great to learn new tips and tricks to blogging and healthy living in general. So, if you are on the fence about going, let me give you a gentle nudge. You won’t regret it! If you have any questions about the summit please feel free to ask!
