Birthday Bash Day 1

Time to play catch up! I know I recapped Refresh Summit before Disney, but I wanted to go ahead and write about the conference while it was fresh on my mind. Now back to my mom’s 60th birthday bash in Disney World!

Keep in mind, she knew about the trip but had no idea where we were staying or what we were doing. Her friend drove down with us but had to fly back after the first two days in Disney. On Friday morning, I drove down to Louisiana and at lunch we started our journey to Florida. We stopped in Gainesville to spend the night so we would have a full day in Disney Saturday. When we got to Disney’s gates, I made my mom wear a blindfold. I didn’t want her to know where we were staying until we got there.

I had to make sure the folks at the guard gate when we checked in didn’t give anything away, so I’m sure it was quite comical to see me waving my hands around telling them not to talk or give anything away!

We pulled up to the front of the Polynesian and I told my mom to take off her blindfold, she had NO idea and was super excited! Then I told her not only were we staying at the Polynesian, but that we were staying club level/concierge. She was stoked! We checked in, and our room was ready! We grabbed some food from the lounge then headed out to Animal Kingdom.

We did a few rides, ate lunch, then headed back to the resort to get ready for dinner at Narcoossees.

Oh and I took a few shots of our room before we messed it all up.

At Narcoossees, we had chocolate martinis,

and I surprised my mom with a Cinderella cake….and she cried. I guess that’s a good thing? I would post the video, but she may take me out of her will, so I won’t.

It was a fun night, and we walked back to the Polynesian instead of taking the monorail which was a nice change. mom had two gifts in her room, a real flower lei (which she wore to dinner) with a card, and some helium balloons with a card. The birthday bash was off to a great start!

Minnie Mouse Birthday Party Details

I have had a few people ask about some of the details of the decorations and such for Emma Kate’s first birthday party, so I wanted to do a separate post and share just how we pulled everything together for a fun party.

Minnie Mouse pink birthday party, candy bar, minnie cake, kid birthday @HeathersLG

First of all, I must disclose, I am not a crafty person, and most of these items were bought from a lady who had a Minnie Mouse party for her daughter and then was selling the decorations because she didn’t want to just throw them away. I bought them all for a steal, and plan to re sell them myself!

We got Emma Kate’s cake from a local place called Lulu’s Sweet Shop here in Madison. If you are local to the area I highly recommend! Cake’s are pricey, but it tasted really good!

Part of the large assortment of things I got from the lady I purchased decorations from were a few types of candy from a candy bar she had for her daughter’s party. I bought a few other candy types form Oriental Trading to round out the bar. I used various vases and glassware from around the house for containers and it turned our great!

DSC_0004

These two adorable Minnie’s came with the bundle I bought so I have no idea where she got them.

I have newborn and six month canvases of EK that I bought and never hung up so I used them as decoration on the fireplace above her birthday banner. The highchair banner came with the bundle too, but I think even I could have made that. It was just a piece of burlap with felt letters hot glued to it, then I just taped it up under the highchair.

For food we had a veggie tray, fruit tray, Chick-Fil-A nuggets, sandwiches, Boudin, and chips and salsa.

I printed off Emma Kate’s monthly photos and used clothes pins to pin them to a Minnie Mouse ribbon. Then I safety pinned the ribbon to the table cloth. It was something I did on a whim, and it turned out great! I put her party invitation as the middle photo.

More decorations from the bundle I bought. I think the two Minnie baskets were Easter baskets, they had handles on the inside.

We had water, pink lemonade, and soft drinks. The containers are from Bed Bath and Beyond, and I love them because you can put ice in the middle to keep the drinks cold without watering them down.

DSC_0012

I bought a helium tank at Wal-Mart and we did our own balloons. Honestly, we only did a few, I wanted to do more but we ran out of time and I just kind of didn’t care anymore.

I put the wreath that we had on the door at the hospital out front, along with a huge inflatable Minnie that I got in my bundle (you can find it online.)

I bought balloons from Amazon because I knew I wanted pink, and the ones that come with the helium tank are multi colored.

In addition to cake, we of course also had Orange Leaf frozen yogurt. I was trying to figure out the best way to distribute yogurt of different flavors, so I decided to put stickers on each one, and the different colors were for different flavors. Worked out well!

We also had sidewalk chalk and bubbles for the kids so they could play outside, but it was pretty warm that day.

I was happy with the way everything turned out. I think I decorated just enough to make it fun, but not so that my entire house was pink/Minnie Mouse. We had just enough food, and I’m trying to refrain from eating the rest of the candy from the candy bar. Winking smile

QOTD: What is your favorite party theme for kids? Favorite cake flavor?

Celebrating Your Birthday in Walt Disney World

My mom turns 60 on Christmas day. Her one wish was to have a fun girls trip in Walt Disney World. Since her birthday falls on the day it does, she has NEVER gotten a lot of”” “hoopla” for her birthday. Sure we know better than to wrap her birthday gifts in Christmas paper, and not get her a red and green cake, but let’s face it, everyone is so busy with the holidays it’s hard to focus on a birthday other than that of baby Jesus!

Anyway, when she told me she really wanted a quick girls trip to Disney to celebrate her birthday, I sprang into action to plan for the most FUN birthday bash ever. After all, she totally deserves it as the most selfless giving person ever! When I started making our October plans and doing some research, I got frustrated trying to think of things and having to hop all over the internet to find different things, so I thought I would come up with a list of fun birthday things to do in Walt Disney World for adults (kids at heart, right?) Hopefully this list will be helpful to some people looking for fun ways to celebrate!

Disney birthday celebration

1.) Mark your reservations: Be sure when you book your vacation that you mention there is a celebration going on. That way, it can be marked on your resort reservation and your dining reservations. There is no guarantee, but resorts and restaurants have been known to sprinkle a little pixie dust for birthday guests.

2.) Birthday button (and hat, shirt, etc): Stop by city hall at the Magic Kingdom (or at guest relations at other parks) or ask when you check into your Disney resort for a birthday button. Wear it with pride and watch the magic happen! Cast members and guests alike will tell you happy birthday and make you feel extra special. The button is a freebie, but if you want to pay for a little something extra, you can purchase a birthday ear hat or have a shirt made at Downtown Disney letting everyone know it is your birthday.

3.) Cake: Let me tell you, Disney makes some AMAZING cakes. You can call the cake hotline and have a customize cake made and delivered to your resort or at certain restaurants around property. I have been lucky enough to be the recipient of several cakes throughout the years thanks to my fellow cake fiend Jen, and they are so worth it, and such a fun surprise!

4.) Spa treatment: There is a spa at Disney’s Grand Floridian resort, and also at Saratoga Springs resort. Jen and I actually had pedicures done on my birthday one year, and it was so fun! They have a full spa menu if you are looking for some extra pampering.

5.) Fireworks dessert party: Disney knows how to light up the night sky, and they have been wise enough to pair their amazing fireworks with dessert parties, fireworks cruises, and the most recent addition, the Ferrytale Fireworks dessert cruise during Wishes. So many fun things to choose from (book well in advance for these events!)

6.) Guided Tour: There are a plethora of tours around Disney property, ranging from a behind the scenes Magic Kingdom tour, to a wild Africa trek at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. I think most people would be plenty excited to get to take part in a special tour on their special day.

7.) Recreation: A lot of people don’t realize there is so much more to do at Walt Disney World than go to the parks. A birthday is a perfect occasion to do something special. Some examples are: play a round of golf, rent a boat at one of the many marinas, parasail, rent a surrey bike, or take a horse drawn carriage ride.

QOTD: Have you ever celebrated your birthday in Walt Disney World? What did you do?

26

Good morning! It is quite the good morning indeed! Why you ask? Oh, well, because I have had a great beach vaca, and well…you know….today is my 26th birthday.  WOW! I can honestly say this year has flown. When I think back to last years birthday I am kinda sad….I can say that it was the worst birthday (actual day) that I have ever had…long story, personal stuff, can’t share with you right now, maybe one day. ANYWAY, it was rough, miserable, etc. The only bright spot was my sweet sweet bible study group which I miss TERRIBLY taking me out to dinner.

So, thinking back to that awful day, and then thinking about how much I miss my friends back where we used to live….gah…ok, moving on, supposed to be HAPPY, it’s my BIRTHDAY! I entered the world Saturday, July 13, 1985, shortly before 1:00 pm. Gee, what a fun little bundle of joy! (apparently, I was very dark with a full head of black hair…and my dad didn’t think I belonged to him….seriously…)

Let’s do a little birthday flashback, shall we? No making fun, mmmkkk?

Clearly, I can’t decide if I want long or short hair? back to long this year I’m afraid! (pictures tomorrow)

As I embark on my 26th year, I have a lot of things I want to accomplish, and I look back on a lot of things I DID accomplish in year 25. Moved 3 hours away from where we were living. Added a new job. Built a house. Ran a marathon. wow, and that’s just a few things I did in year 25!

It’s pretty obvious I have a LOT to do this year if I can ever match all I did in my 25th year. I haven’t had time to really think out my goals for this year, but I will, don’t worry! So, as I head down the other side of the twenties hill (YIKES!) I say cheers to 26, and many, many more.

Don’t worry, I made a good wish. But I’m not telling. Smile
