Get Paid to Be Healthy

I often hear people say things like “well if I got paid to workout I would do it more often!” What if I told you that there IS a way you can? For doing simple things like walking and writing healthy tweets and getting sleep. Um, yes please! Count me in! This is perfect with the New Year, because hopefully you are already moving more than you were in 2016. I recently stumbled upon an article about a new app called Achievemint that allows you to connect different fitness trackers and social media such as FitBit and Twitter, and it gives you points for certain healthy things you do. The points add up and turn into CASH. Yes, like money deposited into your PayPal account cash. Here is a screen shot to show you what I am talking about:

Achievemint

So yesterday I did normal things like tweeted a healthy tweet, weighed myself, went to sleep, and walked around (NOTE: I wish I slept 9 hours ha! My FitBit read “laying in bed watching the Bachelor” as actually sleeping. Oops!) and checked my points at the end of the day on Achievemint. I am literally making passive income for just doing my normal thang.

There are so many apps you can connect, like your Garmin, Foursquare, Map my run, My fitness pal, FitBit, and Runkeeper (and lots more!) Connect your Twitter account to get points for tweeting health related things. It really is that easy. If you want to be more active to participate even more in this app you should  learn Modafinilcat closed explanation that will help you keep you alert and more energetic.

A few more details:

-You can earn up to 80 points a day for for tracked activity like running, biking, and walking.

-You can earn up to 6 points a day for posting healthy things on Twitter, or Foursquare.

-Points expire one year from the date in which they are earned

-Once you reach 10,000 points ($10) you can get paid! Holla!

**If you sign up for an account using my link, you will get 250 points to jump start you! (This is an affiliate link, but hey, you get rewarded, too!) Good luck and make that money!

QOTD: What apps would you connect? Ok, now go sign up, it’s free!

Heart Health Recap and Fitbit Giveaway

Two giveaways in one week? Heck yes! It is Friday after all, so why not? You may remember I posted at the beginning of February about heart health and some goals I had for the month. I had some great tools form Staples to help me try to reach my goals, and while I didn’t reach them all, it was fun trying!

1.) Take time for myself every day

2.) Delegate- Eh. Still need to work on this one but getting better.

3.) Let things go- I had a couple of things happen this month to upset me, but after the initial anger I chose to let them go and I feel so much better not dwelling on the stress or haters.

4.) plan ahead- We went on vacation and I had to do a LOT of planning ahead to make sure things were covered at work, at home, etc. and everything went smoothly!

5.) run 100 miles- I only ran about 55 miles last month. I realized picking the shortest month of the year for such a  lofty goal probably wasn’t the best idea! Also, I was dealing with a hip injury so I was actually running less. Oh well! I will have to try this one again.

Something that really helped me stay active every day this month was my Fitbit One. I aim for 10k steps a day, and like to check in during the day to see where I am and if I need to do some more moving around. It’s been a great accountability tool!

Sold

Good morning! Thank you everyone for your great responses to my post yesterday about the glucose test! It was definitely an interesting experience and I’m so glad to see I’m not alone.

Yesterday was a bit of a wild day, we are at our old house packing up because we FINALLY SOLD IT! That’s right, after 27 months our house sold and we have to be out by the end of the month. It’s a very long story that I really want to share with you once we get everything moved. I feel bad, almost like I have hidden from you guys a lot of what has been going on, but there is a reason, and I can’t wait to share the story soon.

Anyway, we spent a couple hours Wednesday night and all day yesterday packing and we still aren’t done. Thank goodness for my mom and Bobby’s mom that came and helped us or we would be in trouble. Can I just say packing while in your third trimester is not fun? By the end of the day, I was so sore and tired I couldn’t hold my eyes open at dinner and was in bed at 7:30!

I wore my fitbit from staples, and I walked over 10,000 steps yesterday without even leaving the house. How crazy is that? Let’s just say I went up and down the stairs at least 50 times and boy am I feeling it!

I’m really ready to get finished up here and head to my parents because Karen and her husband come into town today for my baby shower that is tomorrow! Not to mention, Sunday is my birthday, so it’s sure to be a fun weekend! I will blog all about it next week and will have pictures from the shower.

I better get back to packing, have a great weekend!

Staples iTunes Giftcard Giveaway

I was recently contacted by Staples to be a part of a summer fitness initiative, #StaplesFitClub, and was generously sent some amazing gadgets to test out. These products all work together to make getting fit and recording everything/tracking your goals a cinch, and I am having a blast so far!

The items I was sent include the iPad Mini, the FitBit One, and the FitBit aria scale with wifi. I was so giddy opening up the box, I love electronics, and I love fitness! Staples hit the nail on the head with this amazing combination!

Ok, so let’s talk about each item individually. First, the FitBit One. This little gadget attaches easily to your hip and tracks your steps, mileage, calories burned, and flights of stairs traveled. You can also wear it to bed to monitor your sleep activity which I found super cool. I put it on in the morning and forget it’s there, it’s really a no-fuss product. It really helps me to have mini goals for the day, like walk so many steps or climb so many flights of stairs. Being able to “check in” on myself right on the device during the day helps me to stay on track.

fitbit

I was also sent by far the coolest scale I have ever seen in my life! The fitbit Aria  has Wi-Fi, yall! It works in conjunction with the FitBit. Once you set up a profile with FitBit, the scale will recognize you when you step on, and tells you your weight, body fat %, and BMI. Them, the information is sent to your FitBit profile (privately) so you can easily keep track of your progress and even set goals for yourself.

Then there is the iPad mini, which rounds out the group and brings it all together. I downloaded the FitBit app from the app store (free) and so when I open my app on my iPad, it shows my profile for how many steps I have walked that day, distance, stairs, etc. as well as my weigh in info form my scale, all together in one place, it’s seamless! The iPad I received has 16GB of space, a 7.9 inch backlit display and a 5MP camera with HD video recording. I will be doing lots of Facetiming with up to ten hours of battery life (that’s a lot of facetime!)

Not to mention I went to the app store and downloaded some fitness apps to my iPad to help me with my fitness goals. There are a ton to choose from, and the iPad and iTunes make it so simple to purchase and download right to your device instantly.

Accessories for a Healthy Lifestyle

As a very “connected” people, we are always finding new ways for technology to help us improve our lives. One thing a lot of people have begun to do is use it for health and fitness, which I think is a fabulous idea. Verizon has a ton of accessories that can be helpful in achieving the fitness level you desire, and to also help you keep your weight on track. Check out some of my favorite cool accessories that Verizon offers:

Fitbit Zip: This is a simple tool to help keep you on track with how much you are moving during the day. It tracks your steps and your distance, as well as calories burned. I love mine! It easily clips onto your belt loop or shirt, and it doesn’t bother you at all during the day. (At least not me!) I have even heard people say they accidentally put it through the wash and it came out ok!

FitBit-Zip

Smart Scale: My favorite thing about this scale is that it updates your stats to your fitbit dashboard so you can keep track. It also measures body fat and BMI (honestly I hate BMI though, so don’t get me started.) This bad boy is wi-fi enabled for easy tracking and recording. Pretty nifty!

FitBit-Aria-Scale

MotoACTV Bike mount: I don’t really ride, but I know my husband would love this. It easily attaches to your handlebars so you can clearly see your stats as you go. It has a GPS in it, so you can track your training and also put it online on your personal training log. You can also sync this to your android phone and be alerted when you get texts, tweets, etc. I love that!

Fitbit Review

As a Verizon Wireless Ambassador, I was sent a fun new gadget in the mail the other day, and I am so excited to share it with you…it’s a Fitbit! Not going to lie, I had never heard of this until it showed up in my mailbox (have I been living under a rock?!?) However, as a runner and health nut, I was really excited to try it out.

The Fitbit tracks your steps, distance, and calories burned. The coolest part is, you can sync it to you computer or some smartphones so you can check your progress during the day without having to check your Fitbit.

You can easily attach it to your pants, bra, etc. (I even attached mine to the inside of my boot when I went to dinner!) It’s very sturdy and doesn’t fall off easily. When you want to switch between screens you just tap or thump the front and it changes from distance, to calories, etc.

I obviously love competing with myself, so having my own Fitbit account so that I can track my progress, earn badges, and even have a little fun competing with friends. I like to try and outdo the day before, and earn more badges. Right up my alley!

The device is also sweat rain and splash proof. I have worn it for three days and am really loving it. I forget I’m wearing it, so it definitely doesn’t distract me or bother me during the day. I also like checking in and seeing how I am doing during the day. If I need to walk more, or burn more calories.

*Note, running on the treadmill will not track the distance properly. I ran 6 miles on the treadmill yesterday and it said I went four and a half miles. However it is still nice to have an approximation.

Guess what? Verizon Wireless has offered to give $5 off to RWS readers who purchase a Fitbit through this link: Fitbit

Thanks Verizon!

QOTD: What are your thoughts on the Fitbit? Have you heard of it and would you ever use one?
