Weekly Workout Recap: February Week 4 2014

Last workout recap of February! 2014 is really flying by. I can’t believe it’s nearly spring, we have green grass growing and it is getting up to 75 today! Spring weather truly lifts my mood, and I have wanted to spend every spare second outside the past couple of days.

The dogs have really enjoyed being outside more, too.

This was a bit of an odd week because we were in Orlando until Tuesday, and then I spent the majority of the rest of the week catching up on work and recovering from three back to back races plus time walking in the parks. Here is a look at this past week:

Sunday: Princess half marathon + walking the parks 10-2ish

Monday: Walking the parks 9-2ish

Tuesday: rest/travel home

Wednesday: rest

Thursday: rest

Friday: 2 mile run/walk

Saturday: 1.5 mile walk

I am listening to my body for now, I am super burnt out on running and racing so I will be doing some other things for a while. I still will run, and am running the Crescent City Classic 10k Easter weekend, but no more long distances for awhile. Dopey + Tink + Princess wore me slap out!

I know in a lot of the country racing season is just getting started, but sadly here in the deep south it will be ending very soon until fall. After March you will only find 5k’s and 10k’s and even those are few and far between past May. I had plenty of fun and races this fall and winter though so I can’t complain!

QOTD: What is on your race schedule this spring?

Weekly Workout Recap: January Week 5 2014

Oh boy what a week. I didn’t do so great with my workouts, because I re-injured my back. I tried my first run after Tink last Saturday, and Sunday morning I was hurting again. It slowly got better, then Thursday I did some circuit training at the house and Friday it hurt as badly as the day I originally injured it (I woke up in the middle of the night in tears it was hurting so badly). So, no running for me this week, and probably for several more days as I continue to ice and take it easy!

Oh how I wish I felt this good again!

We also had a random ice/sleet storm come though Tuesday and Wednesday, so schools, gym, pretty much everything was closed all week and we were cooped up inside (hence the circuit training in my living room on Thursday). Here is what I DID do last week:

Sunday: rest

Monday: 45 minutes stationary bike

Tuesday: rest

Wednesday: rest

Thursday: 30 minutes circuit training (think squats, lunges, jumping jacks, etc.)

Friday: rest (not move from the couch with an ice pack on me)

Saturday: Long easy walk by myself

QOTD: Have you ever pulled your back? How did you do it? How long were you out of commission?

Weekly Workout Recap: January 2014 Week 1

First workout recap of January! I hope everyone had a great workout week kicking off the new year. I am tapering for Dopey, so I took it easy on the running front.

Untitled

We are ready to see some characters!

At this point, nothing I do is going to make me faster, so it’s just about maintaining, keeping injuries at bay, and feeling confident. I took 3 rest days this week, Friday was unplanned, but I didn’t have a great day and working out was the last thing on my mind. Take a look:

Sunday: rest

Monday: 10 mile run

Tuesday: rest

Wednesday: 30 minutes elliptical

Thursday: 30 minutes stationary bike, weights

Friday: rest

Saturday: circuit workout at home 25 minutes

My plan for next week is to rest today, run 3 or 4 miles tomorrow, and that will be my last run until the 5k on Thursday. We leave Tuesday and are driving halfway down to Disney, and then arrive Wednesday morning to go to the expo. If you are going to the races, I hope to see you there!

QOTD: Do you run the week of a race/before the race?

Weekly Workout Recap: December 2013 Week 3

We got home from our trip on Monday, and I desperately needed to workout (hello, cruise food!) So we went to the gym that afternoon. I eased back in, then completely shocked my body with a long run on Wednesday!

312

This counts as working out, yes?

It has been an interesting week, and I’m not sure if my long run made me feel more or less confident about running 4 races in 4 days next month. Crossing my fingers and hoping my body behaves!

Sunday: rest

Monday: 30 minutes stationary bike, legs

Tuesday: 20 minutes elliptical, upper body weights and abs

Wednesday: 16 mile treadmill run (yes, you read that correctly)

Thursday: rest

Friday: 45 minutes stationary bike, upper body weights and abs

Saturday: 4 mile run

I’m hoping I will get a few workouts in next week even though we will be with family. I need to run an 8-10 miler as I tape for marathon weekend. Hope everyone has a great week!

QOTD: Does taper madness get to you?

Weekly Workout Recap: November 2013 Week 3

Well, this week was pretty uneventful. Bobby was sick and I wasn’t feeling to great either, so I didn’t do much. My health and sanity comes first, even at the expense of Dopey training. Winking smile

With that being said, I am finishing up my Advocare 24 day challenge. Don’t forget I am doing a blog challenge where you can win money and gift cards.

NYNYHM

If you plan on participating, you need to order your product in the next 2-3 days to get it in time. Please email me with questions! heatherslookingglass@gmail.com. It’s going to be fun!

Sunday: rest

Monday: 25 minute power walk

Tuesday: walked the dogs

Wednesday: walked the dogs

Thursday: rest

Friday: walked the dogs

Saturday: 2 mile treadmill run, weights

Yes, that is the extent of my workouts. Pitiful, but I am thankful I can at least walk. Have a great Sunday everyone!

QOTD: What is your favorite way to cross train?

Weekly Workout Recap: October Week 5

Good morning guys! You may have noticed a lack of posting yesterday. I decided for now I am going to NOT post on Saturdays. It is my slowest day, and with the holidays coming up, things are getting really busy and I just don’t have the time, nor do I want to spend Friday night writing blog posts….so, for now this will be a 6 day a week blog. Please keep reading though!

So, this past week I finally got back into working out after being sick, but it still wasn’t a “full strength” week of workouts. Check it out:

Sunday: rest

Monday: 3 mile run

Tuesday: 45 minutes stationary bike, weights

Wednesday: rest

Thursday: 2 mile run, 20 minutes stationary bike, weights

Friday:  30 minutes elliptical, weights

Saturday: rest (long run today, Sunday as opposed to Saturday)

Better than it has been, but I have got to run more. 8 miles are on the schedule this morning then I will run once or twice before the Wine and Dine half on Saturday night. After that I don’t have any races on the schedule until January, but I may do some local 5k’s between now and then.

Hope everyone has a great day!

QOTD: What is on your race calendar through the end of the year?

Weekly Workout Recap: September Week 3

This month is flying by. Granted, I haven’t been home for very much of it, but wow! We are now in my favorite season. I love fall, and can’t wait for some cooler temps to on down to the deep south.

Since I was gone at a conference until Friday of this week, I didn’t really do much working out. We were up early and out late every night, so I only worked out once while I was in Florida. However I did have a really great long run yesterday!

Sunday: 2 mile treadmill run in Disney

Monday: rest

Tuesday: walked around parks, 3+ miles

Wednesday: rest

Thursday: rest

Friday: rest

Saturday: 8 mile long run in 1:17

QOTD: what is the longest run you do before a race? (the distance of the race, shorter, longer etc.)

Weekly Workout Recap: September Week 1 2013

After I skipped my weekly workout recap last week, I am back at it! Although, my workouts this week were pretty uneventful (aside from the Disneyland half of course. It’s never uneventful running the happiest race on earth!)

After the Disneyland 10k

I ran the runDisney Dumbo Double Dare last weekend (recaps coming this week!) and then well….walked around the parks until we went home Wednesday. let me tell you, we walked, and we walked, and we walked…and it was hot…I think California missed the low humidity memo. I *may* have gotten blamed a few times for brining it with me.

Then I gave my body a break Thursday and Friday. Let’s just say my run yesterday was TOUGH. You really are what you eat (and I ate whatever I wanted in Disneyland! so basically I am lots of desserts, cheese and fried food) and I am paying for it now.

Sunday: Disneyland half marathon

Monday: walked around parks

Tuesday: walked around parks

Wednesday: rest

Thursday: rest

Friday: rest

Saturday: 3 miles in 29 minutes <—-tough!!!

I will rest again today, and hope to feel more like myself Monday. I also plan to get back to weights, my goal is 4 times this week. (Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri) because yes folks, I go out of town AGAIN on Saturday and will have little time to workout for another six days. More on that later, it’s a work trip, but will also be fun. Smile

QOTD: Do you have a hard time getting back into workouts after a race?

Weekly Workout Recap: August Week 3 2013

Good morning! What a crazy week.

20130820-1O5A9726-54-(ZF-8198-64045-1-009)

I ended it yesterday with a nice long afternoon nap. My body definitely needed it! While the bottom of my foot isn’t completely healed, it is doing MUCH better than last week. I think race tapering has helped as well as ice and ibuprofen.

If you have been reading along you know this week was a big week for me visiting Baltimore and the Under Armour headquarters. I did two tough workouts while I was there as well as my workouts at home. Take a look:

Sunday: rest

Monday: 3 mile run, legs and abs

Tuesday: circuit workout with Under Armour trainer

Wednesday: Yoga at the four seasons on the roof (amazing!)

Thursday: rest

Friday: one hour stationary bike, triceps

Saturday: 5 mile run

Let me just say, I am STILL sore from my workouts at UA. They kicked my butt and reminded me of muscles I need to work out more often.

UA skirt

Loving my new UA skirt and mesh top. So breathable!

Today is ONE WEEK from the Disneyland half marathon/finish of Dumbo Double Dare, so I will be taking it super easy. I may run 3 on Monday then 1 or 2 on Wednesday, but that’s it for running. I will probably lift on Monday and Tuesday, but Wednesday will be my last workout (besides walking around the parks) I am so excited, can’t wait to go!

QOTD: What do your workouts look like the week of a race or event?

Weekly Workout Recap: August Week 1 2013

Good morning! Wow I am tired today. Yesterday Bobby and I ran a 13.1 mile training run for the Dumbo Double Dare we have coming up, and we both feel like we are falling apart! (WHY did I sign up for DOPEY again?!?)

0222ZX_0169_KW

I see it in her eyes. She knows Dopey personally, and thinks I’m crazy for attempting his race.

We spent the afternoon resting and recovering, and I am so glad our longest run (for now) is behind us. Bobby was upset that we ran a half marathon but didn’t get a medal. He threatened to walk around all day wearing one of his old half marathon medals. Oh boy.

Here is what I did the rest of the week:

Sunday: 6 mile run

Monday: 45 minutes elliptical, abs

Tuesday: 4 miles in 40 minutes on the TM

Wednesday: rest

Thursday: 2 mile run outside

Friday: upper body weights, 20 minutes stationary bike

Saturday: 13.1 mile run in 2:20 (half outside, half on TM)

Very productive week, and now I am going to start slowly tapering for Dumbo. I will probably do a long run of 7 or 8 next weekend, then maybe 5 or 6 the following, we will see how I am feeling. I would much rather feel fresh and not so injured then get in more miles.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday!

QOTD: What is the longest distance you run when training for a half marathon?
