Weekly Workout Recap: August Week 2 2013

Oh what an interesting week. Last Saturday, you may remember we ran 13.1 miles. In an effort to pretend I was fine and in hopes it would go away, I didn’t mention the terrible ball of foot pain I had during and after the run. Does anyone remember this from last summer?

it was literally almost a year to the exact date that it started hurting again, after a full year of no pain. Ug! I have been walking around my house all week in running shoes. Barefoot on my wood floors kkkiiilllssss. I have been taking Ibuprofen, and taking it easy on the running (I only ran twice this week) in hopes it would be fine. No such luck, but with pain meds it’s manageable to run n at this point. I really don’t want another cortisone shot right now.

So, with that said, I decided to take it SUPER easy this week, I even took TWO rest days in a row, which I never do.

Sunday: rest

Monday: 20 minutes stationary bike

Tuesday: rest

Wednesday: rest

Thursday: 3 mile run, weights

Friday: 30 minutes stationary bike, weights

Saturday: 7 mile run

My 7 miles were decent, but my foot feels the same. I just need to get through Disneyland half/Dumbo then I can decide what to do next.

QOTD: Do you ever take more than one rest day in a row?

Comments

  1. Sorry you are struggling with foot pain again. Hopefully the extra rest will help you feel a bit more comfortable and ready for the Dumbo Challenge.

  2. That is MISERABLE!! I just came off of a 2-1/2 week rest due to pain in the ball of my foot. It was right underneath my toes and felt like a really intense bruise. I ended up giving up the high heels, icing it a lot, and taking ibuprofen and it still took longer to heal than I would have liked.

  3. When I started icing it more frequently was when it healed, so take that for what it’s worth. I also stopped walking around my house barefoot because it was too painful. Instead I wore my Nike flip flops with the squishy gel insoles, so comfy!

  4. I’m right there with you girl. Hope you’re feeling better soon…listening to our bodies is key

  5. If I need to, yes. My ITB twinged a bit last Sunday, so I took Monday off as well as Wednesday through Saturday. Today will be my first cardio workout since then.

I hope it starts feeling better. Dumbo is supposed to be fun.

  6. Friend!!! I’m so sorry to hear about your foot! Keep resting and icing and ibuprofering (is that a word)…hopefully that will do the trick! Crossing my fingers and praying for you!!

  7. So sorry to hear about your foot. I have been struggling with foot pain and even took off 3 months no running, then started PT, started running the plantar fasciitis and bone spur area stopped hurting but I had the pain the outside of my foot. I went back for an ultrasound. I have an old chronic tear. so I am off of running again and biking like crazy. (I also have started shock wave treatment) In all of this I have learned several things 1. Don’t ever ignore pain EVER! 2. Crosstraining is very important 3. I am not an elite, so if I dont run my world wont end. I want to be able to walk when I am 60,70,80 so respect the body now or you wont be able to later. (this is coming from a person who thought the world would end if I wasn’t running.)

  8. Hope your foot is feeling better soon! Injuries are no fun! Only 2 more weeks until Dumbo Double Dare…I am getting exciting to hear about everyone’s experiences!! :)

  9. I hope your foot feels better soon!!

I only recently started taking consecutive “active recovery” days on Saturday and Sunday. I think because I am taking more recovery time I am getting stronger and faster! I’m allowing my body time to rest and repair.

  10. Uuuugh. Sorry about your foot! I had some ball-of-foot pain leading up to Marathon Weekend this year, but fortunately I narrowed it down to just needing new shoes. Right where I was feeling the pain, I saw that the tread was worn right down.

    Good luck, girl.

(Meanwhile, I’m in the midst of multiple annoying days off. Weirdly, confusingly sick. Did two shows yesterday where I had to hold onto something so I wouldn’t fall over.)

  11. I hope your foot feels better soon! I definitely take more than 1 rest day in a row when I need it. I used to push myself even when I could tell my body wasn’t up for it, but now I’ve started paying more attention to what my body needs :)

  12. I am sorry to hear about your foot. I hope it heals asap! I have a pair of memory foam type flip flops that I wear around the house when my foot starts to get tender there. As for rest, I took a few days off earlier in the week since on my scheduled run day we went to Blizzard Beach and going up and down those stairs all day was enough for me. I made up for it by doing 2 runs on Thursday.

  13. So sorry to hear about your foot! In the 15 months since I started running, I have taken time off. I ran the Disney Princess Half with pneumonia (thought I had an upper respiratory infection but it wasn’t) and it took me almost a month to recover and then I only had a month to train for the Nike Women’s half in WDC. Hang in there; prayers coming your way! :)

  14. If your foot hurts that much – that you can’t walk on the floor barefoot, you should probably either see a doctor or not run on it until you can walk on it. I know it’s hard to take breaks from running but if you don’t take care of injuries they get worse…you can’t just wish them away by ignoring them. And you’re not doing your self any favors in regards to Disney/Dumbo if you’re not taking care of yourself! xoxo.

    • It doesn’t really hurt while I run, and I know what the dr will say bc it’s what he said last year: I can give you a shot for the pain but running on it isn’t going to make it worse it just hurts.
However, since in tapering I’m taking it easy and am feeling much better than last week so hopefully I am on the upswing!

  15. So sad to hear this! I hate taking double rest days, but if that’s what it takes for healing, then they are totally necessary. Hang in there!

  16. I feel your pain and I am so sorry that your foot is hurting. My plantar fasciitis popped and ruptured last Wednesday so I am icing, soaking in espom salt, resting, and even doing laser therapy. I am missing running so bad, my doctor told me that it might be a month or longer before I can run again but I am sooner. My next race is September 14th, I will pray that your pain gets better soon.

  17. I do! I often like to give myself two days off before a long run – although I often go to ballet class on those days, so maybe it doesn’t count?
