Weekly Workout Recap: September Week 1 2013

After I skipped my weekly workout recap last week, I am back at it! Although, my workouts this week were pretty uneventful (aside from the Disneyland half of course. It’s never uneventful running the happiest race on earth!)

After the Disneyland 10k

I ran the runDisney Dumbo Double Dare last weekend (recaps coming this week!) and then well….walked around the parks until we went home Wednesday. let me tell you, we walked, and we walked, and we walked…and it was hot…I think California missed the low humidity memo. I *may* have gotten blamed a few times for brining it with me.

Then I gave my body a break Thursday and Friday. Let’s just say my run yesterday was TOUGH. You really are what you eat (and I ate whatever I wanted in Disneyland! so basically I am lots of desserts, cheese and fried food) and I am paying for it now.

Sunday: Disneyland half marathon

Monday: walked around parks

Tuesday: walked around parks

Wednesday: rest

Thursday: rest

Friday: rest

Saturday: 3 miles in 29 minutes <—-tough!!!

I will rest again today, and hope to feel more like myself Monday. I also plan to get back to weights, my goal is 4 times this week. (Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri) because yes folks, I go out of town AGAIN on Saturday and will have little time to workout for another six days. More on that later, it’s a work trip, but will also be fun. Smile

QOTD: Do you have a hard time getting back into workouts after a race?

Comments

  1. I am worried about that when I run the Tinkerbell next year, because I am also doing the Princess a couple weeks later. I know to give myself a couple of rest days, but the eating at the parks is going to be the killer. My friend & I who are running Tinkerbell together are already booked at the Grand Californian too! I hope to see you! You have been a huge inspiration for my friends & I in our goal for the Coast to Coast medal next year!

  2. Oops, did we bring the humidity??

  3. I don’t think you’re solely to blame. I know there were runners from Texas and Florida so blame can be shared :)

I give myself at least a month off after big races not only to recover physically, but mentally as well. It’s nice to sleep in when I don’t have to rush outside to do a long run.

  4. Whoever said California was cooler with no humidity was a big fat liar :). I took it easy this week also, starting marathon training tomorrow so I figured my body deserved a little break. Even got a sports massage – no relaxing there…

  5. Heard a lot of people blaming Floridians for the heat and humidity…. I am sorry!!!! Lol

  6. So you mention weight training. I’m not a runner by any means- but have started training. What I really love is the Les Mills group fitness class called Body Pump- which is weight training. How do you balance weights a d running? I have dropped back on the weight I do for squats and lunges but don’t know how to put running and weights together. Any suggestions?

    • I run 4 times a week (usually monday, tuesday, thursday, and saturday) and I weight train 3-4 times a week (monday, wednesday, friday, sometimes another day) I split it up and do legs one day, bi’s and back one day, and chest and tri’s one day. sometimes I throw in a body pump or yoga class in the mix too, or instead of a leg day. I never lift legs teh day before a hard run or long run though!

  7. Glad you had a great week! Can’t believe our fun weekend was already a whole week ago! (How many times can I use the word week in 2 sentences?) :p
